There are centenarian lists released for each country yearly. The Finnish one is completed to 1918 for men. We know all these people are dead.
arghton 6,739 Posted October 11, 2022 Wikipedia didn't mention many of them as dead, turned up with a quick search of people not marked as dead. But yes, safe to say Sinikka Luja-Penttilä is the oldest living Finnish person with an English wikipedia page. The minor Olympic competitors annoy me, no way they're all still alive. There are a few notable ones born 1918-1924 who don't have English wikipedia pages but who I know are still alive: Ilmari Koppinen (1918, runner, WWII veteran with quite an interesting story), Eeri Hyrkkö (1922-2022, longtime Centre Party influencer and local politician), Tuomas Haapanen (1924, violinist), Holger Thesleff (1924-2023, philologist, historian, author of Studies in Plato’s Two-level Model), Satu Tiivola (1924-2023, businesswoman), Ele Alenius (1925-2022, former leader of political party SKDL, former Minister), Heimo Linna (1925-2022, two-time Agriculture Minister) I've mentioned a few of these before but atleast Tuomas Haapanen I've never mentioned before. Deserves a mention here, one of the most known Finnish violinists ever, former Rector of the Turku Music Institute and the Sibelius Academy. And the teacher of, for example, Elina Vähälä who performed at the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony

He bounced in and out of ICU and critical condition for months for the first half of this year, originally was in ICU with covid in January, discharged, then hospitalised, critical and intubated in ICU after a hip fracture and a stomach infection in March, needed a delicate surgery and discharged after two months, days later hospitalised in critical condition with lung complications and hepatitis C. The oldest Nepali personality with an English wikipedia page as far as I know is now Bishwa Bandhu Thapa, doyen of Nepal's politics and member of Nepal's first parliament 1959-1960. "Only" 95 and still very active. Here's a picture taken a couple of months ago: In addition to Chittaranjan Nepali and Bishwa Bandhu Thapa I think the only other living Nepali nonagenarian is Queen Ratna. Mahananda Poudyal, not sure if he's Indian or Nepali.
CastAway 488 Posted October 18, 2022 There are some rumors on Twitter and Reddit that the 8 dead in the Evin prison fire is just the tip of the iceberg, and the Iranian regime is waiting on the protests to die down (good luck) before announcing more names. Given the people imprisoned there, this could get ugly, and fast. In more Evin news, rock climber Elnaz Rekabi, who competed without a hijab, has gone missing: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/18/fears-for-iranian-climber-elnaz-rekabi-after-she-competed-in-seoul-without-a-hijab Iran says she's on her way home to Iran, rumors abound that she's to be imprisoned in Evin once she gets there.

While he's been "dying" at a slow pace before, now he needs oxygen nearly all the time and says that he's "close to death" and "feels how the thread he's hanging on by is getting thinner". Looks death warmed up but he said that he'll die soon last year and the year before that. He's not really famous anywhere as far as I know, I'd say he's FFBI as he's more known for suffering from a terminal illness but his death will be mentioned in those tabloids. arghton 6,739 Posted November 2, 2022 China's CCTV has been producing a series on elderly Chinese famous/mildly interesting people. The frailest ones are in my opinion Wang Yongzhi (would've thought he was years older), Ye Minghan and Lu Yuanjiu. For example Wang Zhenyi is impressive. Although he walks with a stick he still seems to be working at almost 98, very sharp and has a computer at home.
