In terms of leaders still with us from the major players in the 80s, there’s only really Joe Clark (16th Prime Minister of Canada) and Jimmy Carter left. Nobody from UK, France, Germany, Soviet Union, China, Australia, Japan etc.

If he in fact died on Leap Day he would have to be one of the (if not theeee) biggest name to do so.  I haven’t seen anything saying his death was Thursday, only that the obit posted then.

Most likely was. Death announced at just before 6pm local time and big names like that don’t tend to be dead for 18 hours before an announcement.

Paul Houde, a French-Canadian actor and media personality, has died. He was 69. Houde died due to a complication following a major surgery to remove a mass from his brain. He had an extensive radio resume and hosted a French version of the game show 'Lingo'.

Edgar Fruitier, a French-Canadian actor with credits from the mid 1950s through 2017, whose career ended in disgrace when he was convicted of indecent assault in 2020 for acts in the 1970s, died November 29th. He was 94. Fruitier's death was being reported on December 12th. He had been suffering from Alzheimer's for some time.  (Cue the jokes about his surname.)
