time 8,617 Posted April 3, 2014 Paul, you should probably shut this thread. It was shit in the first place anyway. I didn't think it was that shit, it just veered off from its stated aim, i.e. list 1,000,000 famous dead people, in the style of those count to a million threads on other fora. I considered the posting of links to off-site lists of not-really-famous people as not within the spirit of the game. However, its not necessary to close the thread - there's still over 200,000 to go! I've thought about it a few times, but as time mentioned, there are about 200,000 to go. I'm sure someone can find out the names of the people that died during the Spanish civil war or the Crimean war (The 19th century one) Falklands conflict etc. BTW, what happened to 765638? There's two 765628s.

time 8,617 Posted April 3, 2014 Should we start this again disallowing the war dead as otherwise it's going to be over before it started? Or start again with a 1 person per post limit? NO!!!! Just out of interest, I've checked and it would appear that the 200 most prolific posters (50 or more posts) have, between them, amassed a total of 172,038 posts. That's taken over 10 years. Rough calculation: 17,200 posts per year equates to 86 posts per year per person; but, approximately three-quarters of those no longer post regularly, if at all. So, if we say that there are 50 'active & prolific' users and they all post at the same average rate as the 200 have unto now, (roughly 86 posts/year) we'd achieve 4,301 posts in a year. Even if all the posts were in this thread, at one name per post it would take 232.5 years to reach a million. Even maryport would struggle with that rate of output. NB this is not a scientific hypothesis.
