Sir Creep 7,070 Posted September 13, 2015 So with Helmut Kohl's troubles, I decided to check on some other members of my team. The Liliane Bettencourt case is now over and she was in fact being exploited (another case of elder abuse, like BB King and Harper Lee): http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-32923006 She suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's (Is there a difference? I honestly don't know.). But then I guess people can survive biologically like that for years. Nothing of note to update Ms. Bettencourt, but I only recalled her name and really couldn't place her. So after wiki -- I'm being told that she, basically the owner of L'Oreal and not much else I can attest to, is somehow the 10th wealthiest person in the world with $41B? For cosmetics??????? WTF? And it isn't like it's the only cosmetic line, though maybe they have a 90% market share in Europe or some shit? How in fucking hell does owning L'Oreal make someone $41B. Bollocks I say. And anyone responding defending that statistic I say bollocks to you as well. Poppycock in fact! SC

They also own a lot of other brands, so their market share must be enormous. Apart from that, the answer to your question is probably shrewd investments. SC In his Capital in the 21st Century, Thomas Piketty gives Liliane Bettencourt as the prime example of how money tends to attract more money. She could simply sit on her investments and get impossibly rich. No work required.
