I had to look up how Yoshiro Nakamatsu is doing and saw that he "invented" a "defense wig":

Doesn't look too bad in that one-month old video.

Edit: Gah, I thought I had the inventors' thread, not the investor's thread.

Not as fucked as most of us thought he was, but still not necessarily a bad pick.

Forrest Mars Jr, of chocolate fame co-owner of Mars, dead at 84. https://next.ft.com/content/57e9db4c-540a-11e6-9664-e0bdc13c3bef

Wow Y-Dub I thought for a minute you got hoodwinked into posting an old obit. I'm sitting here saying to myself HEY Forrest Mars is in my Coincidental Deaths database! In fact it's Jr's dad! So I've gone two generations now with my death obsession.

So here I bring you the entry for Forrest Mars (Sr.) and his coincidental death pairing -- two candy confectioners who died a week apart. Enjoy.

Forrest Mars, 95, Creator of the M & M and a Candy Empire

Forrest Mars Sr., creator of the M & M, died Thursday at his home in Miami. He was 95 years old. In a final nod to Mr. Mars's lifelong desire for secrecy, a spokeswoman for his company, Mars Inc., refused to provide details yesterday.

He routinely ended up on lists of the wealthiest Americans. The company he built, and turned over in 1973 to his sons, now sells some $20 billion worth of candy, snacks and pet food annually. Along with M & M's, Milky Way, Snickers, Three Musketeers and Skittles, the company, based in McLean, Va., owns the Combos, Kudos and Twix brands; Uncle Ben's rice, and Kal-Kan and Pedigree pet food.

Forrest Mars, is credited with suggesting some ingredients for the candy. During World War II, he introduced a candy-coated chocolate that he named M & M's. He approached William F. R. Murrie, then the president of Hershey, and they agreed to become partners. Hence the M&M stands for ''Mars and Murrie.''

Mr. Mars ran Mars with a system of clear penalties and rewards. Employees were to keep their desktops neat and clean. Managers who failed to meet growth and profit targets were dismissed. To this day, employees who arrive on time all week qualify for a 10 percent bonus in their paychecks, while those who arrive late are docked 10 percent. Everyone, from the executive suite on down, punches a timeclock.

''He was legendary for his extreme temper, and his fanatical behavior,'' Ms. Brenner said in an interview. That temper and that behavior could be exhibited upon the discovery of a less than perfect Mars product. ''He would call up sales associates in the middle of the night if he found a packet of M & M's where the 'M' wasn't printed exactly in the middle of the candy, and he would order the candy recalled,'' Ms. Brenner said.

Victor A. Bonomo, Maker Of Candy Bars, Dies at 100

Victor A. Bonomo, who created and marketed Bonomo's Turkish Taffy, the brittle candy bar whose wrapper instructed buyers to smack it and crack it into many edible pieces, died on June 26 at his home in Bal Harbour, Fla. He was 100.

The candy, which first appeared as a nickel bar after World War II, became a favorite with the economy-minded. Unlike some of its competitors, which melted in your mouth, Turkish Taffy eroded slowly, and it was so chewy that a single bar could last through most of a double feature at the movies.

The CEO of Assura Group, Graham Roberts, had a bout with a form of 'tricky' cancer earlier this year, and when he had to step down from his role, he made my long list for 2017, though I was dubious about his Obit chances. Well, he died a month ago. That answers that!

He was on my longlist as well, as I do with most CEOs who go on medical leaves of absence, but admittedly didn't keep the closest of eyes on him. I saw a mention of his death via an unrelated routine search a couple weeks back and reacted "Why does that name sound familiar? Oh... right."

Another no-go for me: I picked ex-Hewlett Packard chairman Ralph Whitworth for my DDP team since he had left his position after suffering a recurrence of throat cancer, reportedly with a "worse prognosis". I assumed that meant terminal, and although it was initially - he had been given 8-10 months to live - he's now recovered thanks to cutting-edge treatment and recently enjoyed a private Rolling Stones concert http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2015/may/29/rolling-stones-whitworth-belly-up-concert-jagger/

Hmm. Dead. Aged 60. Cancer. http://www.wsj.com/articles/longtime-activist-investor-ralph-whitworth-dies-after-cancer-battle-1475189435

His cancer returned in a more virulent form earlier this year.

DDP awaiting obit.
