Former Campbell Soup Company President and Chief Executive Officer David Johnson passed away on June 19 in Doylestown, Pa. A native of Australia, Johnson served as Campbell's President and CEO from 1990 until 1997 and again from March 2000 to January 2001. Johnson also served as Chairman of the Campbell Board of Directors from 1993 until 1999. Soderquist joined Walmart in 1980 as executive vice president of administration and logistics. He served as vice chairman and chief operating officer from 1988 to 1999 and he was senior vice chairman from 1999 to 2000. During his time with the company, Walmart’s revenue increased from $1 billion to more than $200 billion. SirC July 3, 1999 Forrest Mars, 95, Creator of the M & M and a Candy Empire Forrest Mars Sr., creator of the M & M, died Thursday at his home in Miami. He was 95 years old. In a final nod to Mr. Mars's lifelong desire for secrecy, a spokeswoman for his company, Mars Inc., refused to provide details yesterday. He routinely ended up on lists of the wealthiest Americans. The company he built, and turned over in 1973 to his sons, now sells some $20 billion worth of candy, snacks and pet food annually. Along with M & M's, Milky Way, Snickers, Three Musketeers and Skittles, the company, based in McLean, Va., owns the Combos, Kudos and Twix brands; Uncle Ben's rice, and Kal-Kan and Pedigree pet food. Forrest Mars, is credited with suggesting some ingredients for the candy. During World War II, he introduced a candy-coated chocolate that he named M & M's. He approached William F. R. Harris, who was president and chief operating officer of Atlanta-based Delta from 1987 to 1990, went on to become CEO of Continental Airlines, then was named CEO of Air Canada, and later became CEO of World Airways. He served as chairman of the group from 1991 to 1994. Upon his retirement, he was re-appointed as independent director and non-executive chairman of the group in 2000. He retired from all posts in August 2012 but stayed on as senior adviser until August this year.
