Someone should say to her in response "you know what wasn't funny, crashing the economy including everybody's pensions and not only showing no remorse at the damage, but doubling down on it apparently being a good idea. Maybe we'll stop laughing at you when you acknowledge your sins and apologise for them."

It has to be said, she isn't exactly packing out the O2 with an all action AV spectacular event. Also, the titters in the audience and somewhat mixed reaction in the news report suggests some of the crowd she pulled were curiousity seekers rathet than genuine fans of her political message. It was a peaceful and silent protest. It only suppressed her free speech because she CHOSE of her own FREE will to walk off stage, in the way she does every time anything unpredictable or uncontrollable happens to her. It's like her defence mechanism, like when a hedgehog curls up in a ball.
RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted August 15 Another nifty little bit of analysis from the i today. In the time the Tories were in power (2010-2024), 110 sitting MPs were given knighthoods or damehoods. By comparison, the 13 years of Labour government previously (1997-2010) saw a grand total of...11 MPs given such honours. Of those 110, the breakdown was as follows: 77 Tories (including SIR Gavin Williamson and DAME Andrea Jenkyns ) 27 Labour 5 Lib Dems 1 DUP (SIR Jeffrey Donaldson, currently facing trial for historical sex abuse charges ) The Tories are accused of giving out knighthoods "like they were lollipops". Colour me shocked.
RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted August 17 I can't even begin to detail what's in here, read for yourself. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9wjgkr1750o Farage has declared his outside earnings as per the rules as an MP. He's earning £1m a year from GB News alone. His little trip to the US to support his critically injured (in the ear) mate Donny for him and a staffer for flights and accommodation cost (wait for it) £32,000. Paid for by a crypto currency mate, obviously. Man of the fucking people my arse. The people of Clacton deserve everything they get this with this charlatan.

ladyfiona 2,578 Posted August 18 I am just casually going through those earnings for other politicians. There is a Conservative MP called Nick Timothy who over the last year has been paid by Daily Telegraph £145K for 3 hours a week to write a column. Lot of Labout politicians being given money by unions such as Unite etc. Tom Tugendhat is involved in crypto but it's in a "blind trust" along with other shareholdings over £70k. RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted August 18 Farage declares that the £97,000 sum from GB News is a gross sum paid not just for his presenting role, but for various services he provides. He also says its subject to VAT and varies monthly, so he's not earning £1m a year from GB News. He does realise these figures are updated regularly so we can check doesn't he..? Oh, and Jon Sopel on Twitter noted that business class flights to Milwaukee cost £4,000. So what did he spend the other £28,000 he spent in 4 days on his trip to see Donny on..? RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted August 19 Another good op‐ed piece in today's i on Farage's finances, detailing how it shows his boredom in his new role. This bit stood out, regarding his impact so far in Parliament (I assure you nothing here is going to surprise you): "As one MP of 650, the leader of the joint sixth-largest party in the Commons, he is perversely less special, less noticeable than he was as a gadfly outside Parliament, where he had no commitments, no expectations and few restrictions. He has spoken only twice in the Chamber, voted in two divisions, submitted no written questions and signed no early day motions. It is significant that when the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, made a statement to MPs on 30 July on the stabbings in Southport, Farage left it to Lee Anderson to represent Reform. The leader posted a piece to camera on social media instead." Pathetic.

Brad252 807 Posted August 24 Starmer has now been PM for 50 days. This means he's served longer than Truss. I feel like her main legacy now is just two things: An answer to a pub quiz question, and providing a fairly easy benchmark for future PMs to pass. 4

That last one is only a matter of time - the wide sweeps that put this into context haven't been taken recently, so Truss and Sunak are currently absent - but I'd be amazed if she's anywhere other than the baseline by which shite performance is measured: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_prime_ministers_of_the_United_Kingdom#:~:text=The worst prime minister in,British history and%2For politics.
Lord Fellatio Nelson 6,218 Posted August 27 So, Sir Keef made his speech this morning. It's 18.45 and absolute fucking silence here. The man that would save us all, the party that would be considerably better ( shouldn't be too difficult) than the last bunch of fucking shithouses, etc, etc. So where are the Labour arse kissers? Fucking tongue tied? Still stunned by his brilliance? In awe of the great work they have done so far?
msc 18,439 Posted August 27 tbh I had no idea he made a speech, and am enjoying the ability to go entire weeks without having to check if the government have fucked up my income yet again (like the last lot). More boring politicians, please.
Toast 16,137 Posted August 27 Dunno, I've been out so didn't hear it. Most of it's been previewed, no? Things to get worse before they get better, well, anyone with a brain had figured that out long ago. I agree with the winter fuel thing up to a point - there are plenty of people who don't need it and wouldn't miss it. But I think they need to look again at where they draw the line. Pension credit is the easiest way, but it's not just income that's taken into account, it's also savings. I don't think it's fair to penalise people for having saved. If they've got a few grand tucked away, that's there for when they need to replace something expensive. So there will be a lot who don't qualify for pension credit, but aren't well off.
