Guest Guest Posted June 1, 2015 A list of Lords from The Lord of Lists The following 20 peers are the oldest of those who have been given extended leave of absence from their duties in the Lords. It is possible that such leave is granted for other reasons such as holding a UN or EU political appointed post but considering the youngest of these will be 87 this year I imagine most of them are ill or frail, and remember there are many older people than this still active in the Upper House. Michael Sandberg (b.1927) John (J D) Sainsbury (b.1927) Gwilym prys Prys-Davies (b.1923) Jim Prior (b.1927) Beryl Platt (b.1923) Olive Nicol (b.1923) James Molyneaux (b.1920) Roy Mason (b.1924) George Mackie (b.1919) Betty Lockwood (b.1924) Philip Knights (b.1920) William Griffiths (b.1923) Robert Goff (b.1926) Robert Lindsay (b.1927) Alun Gwynne-Jones (b.1919) Asa Briggs (b.1921) Thomas Bridges (b.1927) Derek Barber (b.1918) Ian Paisley (b.1926) Richard Attenborough (b.1923) There should be an obit for any of these. you can score William (Hugh) Griffiths off the list http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/11643661/Lord-Griffiths-obituary.html Thats 8 out of 20 gone now I think

Interesting to also note the omissions from the service such as Geoffrey Howe and also David Waddington Jim Prior and Patrick Jenkin. All three have recently resigned through the house of lords (which only became possible in a recent bill) so perhaps worth keeping an eye on them as many Peers as mentioned above do not tend to retire from the chambers but rather fall asleep in the chamber well into their 90`s. msc 18,420 Posted June 10, 2015 Well, Patrick Jenkin seemed fairly chipper at Christmas when speaking about his retirement, but is 89. The one to watch is Jim Prior, who always looked a bit out of sorts, and has been on near permanent leave of absence from the Lords since 2010. That, and Norman Tebbit is probably determined to outlive every last one of the Wets!

And if you need any pub trivia to go with him, he was also the last person to be elected to parliament in a by-election caused by an MP's assassination, as he got his Eastbourne seat after Ian Gow was blown up by the 'Ra. Bibliogryphon 9,556 Posted June 12, 2015 Just had a quick look at the photos of mourners arriving at Charles Kennedy's funeral. Menzies Campbell walking with a stick and Malcolm Bruce looking strangely tired. As always with these events they are probably not the best times to photograph people (Will someone explain that to my sisters?)
