Political Frailty

I hate to be pedantic but this should really be posted in the 'down under' thread

Nationality should be the last resort of someone's fame or infamy imo.

Former North Carolina legislator John H. Kerr III of Goldsboro has died. He was 79.

Sandra Kerr said her husband died Sunday. A Democrat, Kerr was first elected to the state House in 1986. He held the seat for three terms before election to the Senate, where he served until retiring in 2008.

Clive Derby-Lewis to be released from prison on medical grounds. DDP holds its breath as 9 teams await his demise. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/south-africa-killer-anti-apartheid-leader-gets-parole-123815696.html#et4HTou

He could mate with Lynne Stewart, who I'm still holding my breath over. Hopefully he does his owners proud.

PS: should I be writing all these names down to put a DDP team together next year?

Nobutaka Machimura, Japanese Speaker of the House of Representatives who resigned in April after suffering a stroke, 70. http://the-japan-news.com/news/article/0002191161

He should have tried shouting "Order! Order!" at his own cardio-vascular system.

A list of Lords from The Lord of Lists

The following 20 peers are the oldest of those who have been given extended leave of absence from their duties in the Lords. It is possible that such leave is granted for other reasons such as holding a UN or EU political appointed post but considering the youngest of these will be 87 this year I imagine most of them are ill or frail, and remember there are many older people than this still active in the Upper House.

  • Michael Sandberg (b.1927)
  • John (J D) Sainsbury (b.1927)
  • Gwilym prys Prys-Davies (b.1923)
  • Jim Prior (b.1927)
  • Beryl Platt (b.1923)
  • Olive Nicol (b.1923)
  • James Molyneaux (b.1920)
  • Roy Mason (b.1924)
  • George Mackie (b.1919)
  • Betty Lockwood (b.1924)
  • Philip Knights (b.1920)
  • William Griffiths (b.1923)
  • Robert Goff (b.1926)
  • Robert Lindsay (b.1927)
  • Alun Gwynne-Jones (b.1919)
  • Asa Briggs (b.1921)
  • Thomas Bridges (b.1927)
  • Derek Barber (b.1918)
  • Ian Paisley (b.1926)
  • Richard Attenborough (b.1923)
There should be an obit for any of these.

you can score William (Hugh) Griffiths off the list http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/11643661/Lord-Griffiths-obituary.html Thats 8 out of 20 gone now I think

Is this the same Jim Wright whose death I reported back on 6 May? Which is the date of the article.

Yikes! Yes....

I ignored him in the 80s, and apparently last month too. Deleting.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3098148/Kenneth-Clarke-William-Hague-Nick-Clegg-politicians-attend-memorial-service-Leon-Brittan.html :Just found this article about Leon Brittan`s memorial service from a few days back.Has a gallery of attendees.Nigel Lawson and Douglas Hurd appear to be in not so great shape then again they are the eldest two there. Interesting to also note the omissions from the service such as Geoffrey Howe and also David Waddington Jim Prior and Patrick Jenkin. All three have recently resigned through the house of lords (which only became possible in a recent bill) so perhaps worth keeping an eye on them as many Peers as mentioned above do not tend to retire from the chambers but rather fall asleep in the chamber well into their 90`s.

Well, Patrick Jenkin seemed fairly chipper at Christmas when speaking about his retirement, but is 89. The one to watch is Jim Prior, who always looked a bit out of sorts, and has been on near permanent leave of absence from the Lords since 2010.

That, and Norman Tebbit is probably determined to outlive every last one of the Wets!

Sen. Johnny Isakson has Parkinsons disease. He says...

I am busier and have more responsibility today than ever before in my political career, and I couldn’t be happier about that. I remain devoted to public service, to my state and to my constituents. I am eager to take my record of results to the voters of Georgia as I run for reelection in 2016

Former MP David Bellotti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bellotti), the LibDem who won Eastbourne in a by-election in 1990 and who was Don Foster's agent, has died at 71. http://www.libdemvoice.org/former-mp-and-councillor-david-bellotti-dies-at-72-46358.html

I was just about to post this news; he's particularly remembered, and generally despised, for his part in the selling of Brighton & Hove Albion's Goldstone Ground, leaving the club homeless for 18 years - he was the club's chief executive at the time.

And if you need any pub trivia to go with him, he was also the last person to be elected to parliament in a by-election caused by an MP's assassination, as he got his Eastbourne seat after Ian Gow was blown up by the 'Ra.

Just had a quick look at the photos of mourners arriving at Charles Kennedy's funeral.

Menzies Campbell walking with a stick and Malcolm Bruce looking strangely tired.

As always with these events they are probably not the best times to photograph people (Will someone explain that to my sisters?)
