No source for this one, but there are rumours Mao Zedong's secretary Li Rui is in critical condition following a stroke. He was profiled by BBC  last year when he turned 100.

Not expected to recover.

So it's a Happy Birthday to two Spitting Image legends.

Ken Clarke is 78 today.

David Owen is 80 today.

Can't find it online but one of my favourite Spitting Image sketches is where David Owen forms The David Owen Party, and then splits from it.

Caretaker Minister Ali Qanso passed away early Wednesday morning after battling cancer. Qanso, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs (in Lebanon?) in the caretaker Cabinet, was 70 years old.

An early "Q" pick if someone had him in ABC DP.

Somehow this got by us June 10 (so far as I can tell)

Several hundred mourners from the world of local politics and business have said farewell to former Norfolk County Council leader Cliff Jordan, who died last month.

Mr Jordan, who was a self-proclaimed "plain-talking Norfolk boy", stepped down as leader in May after his diagnosis of lung cancer.  He died on 10 June, aged 73.
