Zsa Zsa's leg 886 Posted July 27, 2017 THE DEATHLIST GRAMMIES Hello, this is my first deathpool so forgive me if I make some newbie mistakes. The prospects of a music themed deathpool was mentioned and I got the idea to make a "Deathlist Grammies" deathpool. The concept is that each player will select 3 people they think will die that come from 5 popular genres (Pop, Blues/Soul, Rock, Rap, and Country). The first player to completely wipe out an entire genre from their team wins the "DL Grammy" in their genre. You must also send in 2 substitutes for each genre. Ex: My Personal Team Country:Glen Campbell Loretta Lynn Willie Nelson Rap/Hip Hop: Xxxtentacion Remy Ma Tay K Pop: Linda Nolan Olivia Newton-John John Newman Rock/Bands: Johnny Hallyday Christy Dignam Ronnie Wood Blues/Soul Aretha Franklin Dionne Warwick Tony Bennett OVERALL RULES 1. Must have a QO 2. If they're a crossover artist (Ex: Taylor Swift, pop and country), you have the choice of choosing the genre. 3. They don't have to be grammy winners. I just call it the grammies so I don't have to call it the music deathpool. 4. No under 18, death row inmates are allowed (gotta find some rap artists), and no artists that don't fit any of the 5 genres (folk music, edm, and spoken word, etc.) 5. They must have at least one song released to spotify so I can verify that they fit each genre. 6. Deadline for entries begins on August 10th. No entries allowed after that date. All picks must survive until then or else your substitutes will be installed in the order they were submitted. 7. This deadpool ends when every genre has been wiped out by at least one player, meaning all 5 grammies have been awarded! 8. Have fun!
YoungWillz 21,142 Posted July 27, 2017 What counts as a qualifying obit? DDP rules or other? Also, do your picks have to be unique, i.e. if they have already been picked you can't pick them? In that case we'd need to know your subs. If not, hey everyone's fair game....
Joey Russ 7,255 Posted July 27, 2017 What if I wanted to put Maynard James Keenan from Tool on my team? They are a well known metal band, but he doesn't allow any of his music on Spotify. So does that mean he's not allowed?

Jay Z is tidal exclusive and I would allow him on a rap team since he does stream. at the very least, they need to have their music on youtube.

A death notice is fine, so that lesser known artists can qualify. Not every pick has to be unique, but you can't copy an entire team so there wont be any ties So if somebody has Lynn, Campbell, and Nelson for country, you can have 2/3 of those three but not all 3.

I won't be playing then. What is wrong with keeping teams hidden until the deadline? Like the DDP, and Scavenger Bingo.

YoungWillz 21,142 Posted July 27, 2017 And the Deathlist Poker Tournament, and the Hare's Pool! (). Hey, I don't think there's a rule saying you have to post on the thread before the deadline. Why don't we agree that entries be PM'ed to ZZL? ZZL can then let us know if any of our picks don't qualify, then a masterlist can be produced shortly after the entry deadline. Assuming ZZL is cool with that of course.
Toast 16,209 Posted July 27, 2017 ZZL has already published his team and placed restrictions on other people from using his picks.

I, on the other hand, am not restricted by the simple fact that musicians might be ill or indeed dying. As is evidenced by my more general "I'll be sorry to see them go" or "Thank god they've gone" picks for other pools. Literally thousands of artists to choose from, so why not have a laugh with this one? I'll post a team soon.
Joey Russ 7,255 Posted July 27, 2017 Right, so here's a totally not randomly selected team: Country: Kris Kristofferson Glen Campbell Garth Brooks subs: Blake Shelton Shania Twain Rap: Kanye West Grandmaster Flash Ice Cube sub: Jay Z Dr Dre Pop: Justin Beiber Olivia Newton John Paul McCartney sub: Adele Barry Gibb Rock/Band: Johnny Hallyday David Byrne Ozzy Osbourne (got to put my favorite in) subs: Keith Richards Elvis Costello Soul: Vera Lynn Smokey Robinson Aretha Franklin subs: Charles Aznavour Tony Bennett As you can probably tell, I'm not taking it that seriously at all.
Toast 16,209 Posted July 27, 2017 42 minutes ago, YoungWillz said: Literally thousands of artists to choose from, so why not have a laugh with this one? Because it really spoils it for me when names are put out there before the deadline. I like to muse over my choices without being influenced by other people's picks. There really is no need to run pools in this fashion. It's lazy.

Zsa Zsa's leg 886 Posted July 27, 2017 Well. I was asleep when there were questions raised about something I never mentioned but I say they are still worth answering. Seeing as you guys have already submitted your teams in this thread it is only fair that I require all of them to be submitted here. Sorry for my lack of clarification, The team I used in the original post was an example of what a team should look like. I personally won't be playing this deadpool. Overall, this deadpool is not really one that needs much effort put into it. It was made for fun and should remain that way .

You can use players from other teams, but you can't copy every single pick that somebody selects As I said in my last post and implied in my first post, the team I submitted was purely an example of what a proper team should look like in this pool, as I am sure some people would be confused over it, since it's not a traditional death pool format. That's how it came over. I think you underestimate people. The format is similar to the excellent Scavenger Hunt Bingo deadpool, in that picks are to be made from five different categories. But by making it public, you sacrifice one of the points of interest of that pool, namely the possibility of winning with unique picks.
