Toast 16,140 Posted July 3, 2020 May I take this opportunity to remind whoever runs the next pool to rope off the first few posts so that they can be used for Lists of picks List of players & their picks Scoreboard Then everything will be on the front page and we won't need to go searching. No reason why the thread couldn't be started now, in fact. The details can be filled in as and when. 1

I nearly put "month in, month out" too. Sod's law says if I said yes there'd be a bloodbath or, you know, a global pandemic say, and they'd be dropping like flies. But point taken, "maybe next time round when I win", he says confidently... I didn't miss your other post by the way, it'll just take a bit of time to write up the data of who picked who. Miracle Aligner 249 Posted July 16, 2020 Whilst it might take a while for @Bibliogryphon to set up the next round, I'd like remind @RoverAndOut that on the previous round the categories were announced fairly early and there's nothing to stop him doing so (yes, I just want a bit longer to research having missed out last outing due to not having enough time too. Won't be repeating that mistake ) 1

By my reckoning you need a Co-star of Kevin Bacon to complete now, thus joining another umpteen people on one hit away. I've no idea if any other qualifying picks have died since Carl Reiner the same day as Johnny Mandel won it for me.

I've actually just re-checked, having ignored the other person who had Alan Minter, and by my reckoning @Toast has just stolen 2nd place! EU Leaders: Ola Ullsten (and Jacques Chirac) Dallas Stars: Donald Moffat (and Morgan Woodward) Kevin Bacon: Orson Bean Grammy Winners: Johnny Mandel (great guy!) Boxers: Alan Minter 1 in all 5 categories! Well done Toast! Third place still up for grabs though, GC. You are correct though, a Kevin Bacon or unique gets you on the podium! 1
Toast 16,140 Posted September 10, 2020 Oh wow, I knew I'd picked him and that I hadn't had a boxing hit, but didn't realise he would complete the game for me. That was unexpected! 2
Death Impends 7,975 Posted October 14, 2020 I believe the death of Herbert Kretzmer, who was a unique for me here, gets me the bronze.
RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted October 14, 2020 11 hours ago, Death Impends said: I believe the death of Herbert Kretzmer, who was a unique for me here, gets me the bronze. Goddammit. I saw Herbert Kretzmer's death this morning and thought nothing more of it. I spotted cricketer John Reid's death on here and realised he was probably a hit for people in Game 1 (he was - for you and Deathray) but it turned out it didn't make any difference to who had completed (you had already finished and Deathers still needs a Dr Who death). Never even checked Game 2. You are indeed correct - 4 months after it ended, we have a podium (sorry, @gcreptile). I won (somehow), Toast 2nd, Death Impends 3rd. Interestingly, aside from Rotten Ali who didn't take part in Game 2, the three people tied for second in Game 1 (with the death of John B. Anderson in the US elections category) were the ones who finished on the podium in Game 2. Maybe we have a knack? Time will tell - Game 3's already well underway!
