Deathray 2,941 Posted January 31, 2019 This is probably the hardest one on that crossword from the other day,. (Except no 40; A note for anyone having a go, I fucked up 40 by the looks of it lost the answer key so can't see what i did wrong but there's no pair for it). Provide guidance to the charlatans and cheats (band) (7,3,5) McCoy's producer might have said this to him in more exuberant moments (song) (5,6,5)

Provide guidance to the charlatans and cheats (band) (7,3,5) McCoy's producer might have said this to him in more exuberant moments (song) (5,6,5) By no stretch of the imagination can that be called a crossword. The 'cryptic' clues are awful, solo artistes are referred to as 'bands', 40 down is two words - 6,4 - yet there are only six spaces, some clues don't say whether it's a song title or performer and your latest clue "McCoy's producer might have said this to him in more exuberant moments (song) (5,6,5)" has only 15 spaces in which to write a 16 letter answer (similar to many other 'clues').

It's a crossword. A shit one but a crossword nonetheless. On your first point, well there's no solo artists as answers at all in the entire crossword so i'd love to know how you worked that one out..... And that would be because it's a 15 letter answer and actually 5,5,5 All except the last clue for down "Parks Ajoining Green Spaces" fit in there respective boxes even if the word by word numbering is a little out a times, I've actually done the crossword to check (lost the answer key). Which i pointed above I'd fucked up. With the exception of that 40 down clue the crossword is entirely complete-able. Clues were knocked out quickly that's much of the point. (Also I don't think I ever stated they were "cryptic clues" they don't meet any of the rules for that, I'll give you that, just random allures to the word, I'm aware). However you should still be able to deduce the song from the clue with a bit of mental effort. (especially when you know each of the songs is by a band featured in the crossword, that's the other issue with 40 down; it's not paired).
Toast 16,171 Posted January 31, 2019 The main problem with it is the lack of "checked" letters. Some answers only have one intersecting letter.
Cat O'Falk 3,290 Posted January 31, 2019 40 Down is the 10 letter answer 'LINKIN'.

Yeah that fucked me off once I'd submitted the "clues" to but I'd already done at and there was no paramater to increase checked letters. That doesn't null the point that it is technically complete-able (contrary to COF's claim above), if a bit shit. The fact much of the music is relatively niche as well probably doesn't help matters, that i'll cop for....

To be honest I thought "instruction for an intern with God", "fetch me the long running show" and "satisfactory grudge" were okay. The rest are complete horseshit, I'll accept (but are still do-able).

Clorox Bleachman 2,461 Posted February 1, 2019 Hmm, okay. Haven't thought about this at all. Satirical 90s single by a popular band. The song lampoons several people, including a person whose family member was a DL hit, and another person who is now approaching 100 and deathlisty.
