Guess The Song

Recommended Posts

Guess I'll post the video, ha, because it's a choon!

Going to nip out for a ciggie and have a think, I've reconsidered my original follow-up! Back in a few...

Could be North or South,

But when the singer opens his mouth,

The song is sung but the title does not appear.

Hits, they've had a ton,

But with this a week at Number One,

And during the mid-2000s was the year.

Hello Hello, I'm in a place called Vertigo

Or

McFly - Obviously

But, my money's on U2

Massive 21st century hit. It wasn't seen as a serious song and the artist was forgotten by the general public (cemented when they hosted a charity event which only a few dozen fans attended). In the last 5 years, however, they have reinvented themselves and internet communities/critics worship the ground they walk on.

Tony Christie, Amarillo?

(Warning:  some viewers may find the content disturbing)

Sounds like James Blunt and Beautiful to me, but I don't want to go again so soon!

Nope and nope, keep guessing! Willz is closer though. It's not a full-on joke song ft. Peter Kay, and it was big worldwide.

In the interests of accuracy, Amarillo was not a joke song at all and Peter Kay didn't feature on it.  Peter Kay only mimed to it in the video that accompanied its re-release.  It was an old Tony Christie hit from the 1970s and Tony appears in the video as well with Peter giving way to him.

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley taking reinvented (Celo Green - Forget You) literally? Bit of novelty song that got a hit only for him to come back better.

All the Things She Said by TATU? Not taken seriously at the time (as more focus on it being a lesbian song), massive worldwide smash hit, band disappeared, but have recently had a comeback.

No idea about the charity fail though. You'd assume that'd be the easiest bit to find too...

Some good guesses. All the answers so far have been from the 02-06 range when it could be any time in the 21st century... try a few years later?

I'd imagine not many people know about the recent part but everyone and their gran has heard the song.

If it's that recent, there's a distinct possibility that I haven't.

Struggling here...did it get to No.1 in the UK?

I've only heard 9 UK Number 1s in the last decade that I'm aware of, and none of them seem at all likely.

1.      Adele – Someone like you

2.      Rihanna – Diamonds

3.      Fun – We Are Young

4.      Daft Punk – Get Lucky

5.      Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines

6.      Avicii – Wake Me Up

7.      Pharrel – Happy

8.      Ronson/Mars – Uptown Funk

9.      Rachel Platten – Fight Song

10.   Lewis Capaldi – Someone You Loved

UK number ones since 2010 I am aware of - not counting covers etc obv. Forgot about Avicii in my last post, and I only listened to that because of all the young folk on here bemoaning his death!

The 'similar to James Blunt' thing got me thinking so I looked up this one song and, lo and behold, it was at No.1 for 4 weeks...

Ok, here's some attempted Pointless logic.

Carly Rae  Jepsen. Call Me Maybe?

I have never heard of this song. But apparently its her only number one. And I see from Twitter lately she is big with the LGBT folk, so...maybe that was a comedy single and shes now more famous? So it fits 2 of the clues.

I can't get James Blunt out of my head, which is something really unfortunate.

One that fits in with that is Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls. Without Googling, I think it was later than '06 and it deffo got to No.1

Carly Rae kind of makes sense though

Thank God!

Embedding not working again.

Call Me Maybe sold 18,000,000 copies worldwide. Her management thought she could persuade some of those folks to buy 30,000 cups of tea for charity. They sold 20.

Her 2 most recent albums sold roughly that between them, but they both appeared on year-end and decade-end lists. So good for her.

Oh fucking hell. I've only heard of her because of camp friends! So when I saw her on the number ones Wiki list, stab in the dark.

Giving it a listen on YouTube, can honestly say I've never heard the song before.
