Lady Die 63 Posted August 31, 2005 Exactly. Isn't PM only famous because he is a "character". No, he's had an interesting and varied career and an astonishing knowledge of his subject. I for one will miss him. I agree. And he's entirely self-taught. I attended a lecture of his a few years ago & it was riveting. He's so enthusiastic & knowledgable about his subject
millwall32 114 Posted September 1, 2005 O.K. I take it back. I don't know anything about astronomy anyway.
Guest Guest Posted September 5, 2005 fortunately sir patrick looks quite fit and healthy and so i confidently predict that he will live for many years to come
Cerberus 302 Posted September 5, 2005 From what we've heard, even he wouldn't share your optimism.
Grim_Rita 4 Posted September 6, 2005 He wrote an interesting article which appeared in the Daily Express yesterday entitled "How to be a great British eccentric". PM comes across as very lucid so I think reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated!
Guest Guest_Squirts Posted September 6, 2005 Well, on the deathlist I belong to ( 93 names..) the chap aho has 'ole Patrick also pulled out two back to back bucket-kickers earlier this year.. Omen?
honez 79 Posted September 6, 2005 Well, on the deathlist I belong to ( 93 names..) the chap aho has 'ole Patrick also pulled out two back to back bucket-kickers earlier this year.. Omen? Dr Strangelove 14 Posted September 6, 2005 From what we've heard, even he wouldn't share your optimism. Me thinks Patrick doth protest too much. If you really were half way through deaths door, would you be so glib about it. Another DeathList miss, I fear. I certainly expect him to see out the year. However on the current edition of "The Sky at Night" they included an old piece made by Patrick several years ago, and it certainly helped for comparison purposes. He's deterated massively over time and his slurring of words makes me think he has had a stroke at some point. I now expect him to go next year.

He's deterated massively over time and his slurring of words makes me think he has had a stroke at some point. I now expect him to go next year. Well i might agree with you somewhat. I don't clearly understand why Astronomer Patrick Moore is hanging on the high altitudes of the number 5 spot. There is a slurring in speech and perhaps he seems more frail then usual "Though i haven't seen him" But the truth is he hasn't got any real sickness, cancer, or any fatal life threating disease or illness bringing him down except the fact of him being 82 years old. I guess he is a failed deathlist canidate from previous years and due to his rumered change in health he was brought back this year. He also from what i heard rumers his death often as if his time on earth is being clocked. There's always a chance for him to go because he is in his eighties and in our world that's a good life. Our canidates in there 90's are exstremely old and have lived over there life exspectancy. He may be a good bet but i'm not so sure about this year.. I got my eye on a couple other canidates such as Simon Wisenthal and the 103 year old Brooke Astor. Then of course there is the never ending Ronnie Biggs. O and i was just thinking before..If Ronnie was to see 2006 the Deathlist should change his job description. instead of just Ambassador i would correct him as Ambassador\Actor. maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 11, 2005 Don't forget 'Singer.' A one hit wonder in tandem with the Sex Pistols.
Heretic_Zero 0 Posted September 24, 2005 I have to confess, I have my doubts about the Knighted Night Watcher. Personally, I think he's got a bit of health on him. A bit of port and a good Sunday lunch and then "The Night Sky" on the box. I'm not going to rule out freak accident, like 'struck on the bonce by shooting star' or 'hit and run UFO', but I get the feeling he's got a few years left in him. Personally, I'm going to miss Sir Patrick Moore. I loved watching his shows on an evening with my grandmother and wondering if in that vastness above we would find more life. Moore, in his own way, has convinced me that there is, and like him, they're staring right back at us wondering the same damn thing...
football_fan 42 Posted September 25, 2005 Don't forget 'Singer.' A one hit wonder in tandem with the Sex Pistols. Funny, I can't remember Patricks hit with the Sex Pistols. I presume he was doing his part on the xylophone. A truly bizarre image. maryportfuncity was referring to Ronnie Biggs.
Guest iain Posted September 29, 2005 The only thing that makes me think that Patrick might not be long for this world is the fact that he seems to have deteriorated quite a bit in the last year..a year ago he was still able to get out and about to different locations for his show but he now seems to be totyally housebound. Also he says in his book that his bodies shutting down and he doesnt have long to go/.At the same time i kinda have a feeling that he'll make it to Sky at Nights 50th anniversary in april 2007 before he goes. maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 29, 2005 I was indeed referring to the great singer Ronnie Biggs. What that post is doing here I don't know. I'd either had one too many beers or the post fell through a black hole and came out on this thread. The second one, obviously.
