They said it would be safe to watch the solar eclipse if we used a colander. I tried it, but strained my eyes.

If that comes through the person who played her as a joker will be pleased.

How about Charlie Sheen? With all his scandals and excesses I wouldn't be surprised to see him die soon of alcohol poisoning or drug overdose.

Michael Brown, keyboard player and chief songwriter of the excellent '60s baroque 'n' rollers The Left Banke, has walked away aged 65. Was just sweet 16 when he wrote this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re_FQ2gZj4E

If you missed the eclipse, here's a trick from an old Blue Peter, cut a piece of circular cardboard 5ft in diameter, cover it in sticky backed plastic, get some friends to stand on a ladder 50ft away and slowly slide it in front of the sun. Don't forget to use a safety glass and be safe out there kiddies. GET DOWN Shep! I'll get my coat.

The whole eclipse thing got me thinking of this fella. I'm thinking "Patrick Moore's arse" might be a good nickname for the sky. Y'know since it's the only other thing that's so big and white

Interestingly, Bob Hawke is about 6 months older than Fraser and a former alcoholic, yet he still staggers on. Fraser was, by all accounts, in very good health until just a couple of days ago.

Notorious for that, his role in the dismissal and the Memphis trouser affair; where he was found in a seedy Memphis hotel, dazed and wearing no pants.

FWIW, Malcom Fraser - who came from a wealthy, privileged background - will always be notorious for telling workers, during a 12 month pay freeze, "Life wasn't meant to be easy."

One of those pesky Tory MPs who keep doing wrong and get away with it, Jerry Wiggin dies. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/11483368/Sir-Jerry-Wiggin-Tory-MP-obituary.html

Vale Bob Appleyard. If anyone has the time they should read his story. Endured more tragedy than any person should ever have to and stayed a gentleman to the last. On the bright side he was a unique pick for me on DDP.

D'ya know what, that's a great idea. How about we invite the various champions: DDP, HPDP, Deathrace etc. into a thread next year where five talented topplers are lined up and the Champions League involves the 2015 winners competing to pick the closest dates of 2016 death for these people, or summat. And qualification for this dead pool of dead pools is limited only to outright winners of existing competitions. That's not fair, I'll NEVER get to play! You could get in via the cup . Only we will be calling it the urn.

You know from the self-depreciating comments of dead pool winners that the tried and tested pin a list to the wall and throw darts to select the team method does pay off from time to time. It's entirely possible that your turn will come.
