Mentioned regularly in 2008, possible 2009 candidate (we all know how the DL loves old white British fellows), and deserving of own thread. BBC Four has a Morty Night scheduled for mid-January, so maybe they know something we don't. Includes the Play for Today which featured the original incarnation of Rumpole, A Voyage Round My Father and a new documentary summing up his life and career. If this thread reaches a second page before his death I'll be surprised - not too much hot gossip going on in the world of SJM.

This is the Leah Bracknell thread.

Considering he has terminal brain cancer and he has a high chance of being obitable, I think it would be right for him to have his own page. Surprised no one made one already.

He will be 81 next march and is in very frail health. He's just published his autobiography in which he reveals that he doesn't expect to live much longer and has organised his wake and prepared a (very witty) post-death taped funeral speech to his friends. He can no longer walk without the aid of two sticks and says his body has started shutting down. A decent bet?

It's about time we open a thread on this popular talking point (no less than 5 threads tyvm). Looks like the 92-yr old Viacom CEO doesn't have to take a deposition for his competency trial, but what with said trial starting up May 6, how much can the withered man take? Will he see 2017? Could be interesting. "Whether or not Mr. Redstone, 92, is competent is the subject of a lawsuit filed in November by Manuela Herzer, his former companion and onetime romantic partner." SC http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/04/15/business/media/sumner-redstone-wont-have-to-give-deposition-in-competency-suit.html?referer=http://r.search.yahoo.com/RV=1/RE=1460780163/RB=/RO=8/RU=http%3a%2f%2fwww.nytimes.com%2f2016%2f04%2f15%2fbusiness%2fmedia%2fsumner-redstone-wont-have-to-give-deposition-in-competency-suit.html/RS=%5EADAtx6W8Lw5u1n9QS_cgihY4csgd4g-

This is the first time I create a new topic. But I think, such an important opera, cinema and film producer like Franco Zeffirelli really deserves his own thread. A few days ago he turned 95 years old. He is best known for his work in Romeo and Juliet (1968: won 2 Oscars), Hamlet (1990 nominated for 2 Oscars with Mel Gibson and Glenn Close) The Taming of the Shrew (1967 nominated for 2 Oscars with Liz Taylor and Richard Burton), Jesus of Nazareth (1977 with Robert Powell, Christopher Plummer and Anne Bancroft) La Traviata (1982 nominated for 2 Oscars) Othello (1986 nominated for 1 Oscar) In 1972, for moral reasons, he refused to work as director for The Godfather. Francis Ford Coppola then got this job. Only four weeks ago in January 2018 his son declared that his father is too ill. He's on my personal list for the first time this year. But he would certainly be a possible candidate for the official Deathlist 2019.

Continuing my theme of ill dictators, this article implies that all is not well for Kim Jong-Il, North Korea's leader. "According to intelligence information, the 64-year-old leader from the reclusive states is suffering from diabetes and other medical problems involving his kidney and liver. " What have the Americans been putting in his tea? I thought I might start a thread called "Il ill?". That's just my two guineas worth.

I have no idea why (and I don't think I want to know) but last night in the middle of my dream in popped Barbara Bel Geddes. A quick trawl for info shows she's 82, and reminded me that she took a year out from Miss Eliie in the '80's to have quadruple heart bypass surgery, and hasn't seemed to have done anything noteworthy since 1990. Just wondered of she was enjoying retirement, or resting on doc's orders?????? love and kisses little sister ( in need of sleep)
