@Death Impends Shouldn't I have 352.95 points? Unless I've misunderstood how to calculate if both subs die. I thought it's a total of 50 points if both your subs die rather than 25 points for your first sub + 50 points for your second sub.

The latter (one sub dies is 25 points, the second sub dies is an additional 50 points) is how subs score.

Latest scoreboard is below. The biggest change is An Fear Beag taking the bronze, all the while still having eight survivors to work with in these final four months

Realistically, only 4 of them are potential hits though, with Pete Murray, Eric Idle, Charlie Bird and Stan Boardman (wtf was I thinking?) unlikely to trouble the scorers. So I'm probably relying on all of Frank Field, Jimmy Carter, Rob Burrow and Nigel Starmer-Smith dying in the next 4 months. Not impossible, but extremely unlikely.

Will update soon. Mike Yarwood, Dick Clark, Giorgio Napolitano, Michael Gambon, Chris Snow... think that's it for the September hits?

Getting the update taken care of now.

First off is impressionist and light entertainment steward Mike Yarwood. It doesn't seem he was on Celebrity Squares itself, despite having sketches on his own shows that parodied it, but he did at least do panto. He was a unique for Pedro67 worth 45 points (25 base + 20 bonus).

Dick Clark criscrossed the corn fields of Iowa to win one term in the US Senate back in the 70s, which he did inbetween popularizing rock and roll, hosting the Times Square New Year's ball drop, and looking phenomenally youthful for his age until suffering a stroke. YorkshireBanker was a one-man band(stand) in selecting him and now I-owe-a haul of 35 points (25 base + 10 bonus) to him.

Longtime don of Italian politics Giorgio Napolitano found himself on cinque teams this go-around: 25 points for Clarence, diego, and The Unknown Man, 15 for Charles De Gaulle, and 25 sub points for drol.

Stage veteran Michael Gambon seemed at the outset one of the easier drops for the DeathList to make - one of several "easy drops" like Crosby and Berlusconi that buggered it up by dying anyway. One upshot, though, is he was one of the twelve highest-ranked survivors of DL2022, which meant he was on Joey Russ's 2023 HPDP team. He gains 21 points (15 base + 6 bonus).

ALS-stricken NHL executive Chris Snow has fallen, blanketing two teams with a rich field of points: Famous6Eva was the only team to have him on their main squad, rocketing up by 70 points (50 base + 20 bonus), while CaptainChorizo benched him and gains 25 sub points.

The next scoreboard only shuffles by minor bits and bobs, though Pedro67 does sneak tantalizingly narrowly behind the podium:

Update coming today. Luis Garavito, Piper Laurie, Bobby Charlton, Oleg Protopopov, think that's all?

Here goes.

Right sod Luis Garavito was picked by bastards theme team TheKillingTime. With an impeccable resume qualifying him for Crimes Against Humanity points, this boost TKT by 22 points (10 base + 12 bonus). Interestingly, I see that another of their picks, Franklin Delano Floyd, died in January, which previously was completely unmentioned on the forum. Just as well as he only got Florida press and no QOs as far as I can see.

Only GuyFromFuture took a stab at The Hustler/Carrie star Piper Laurie for this game, sinking in the 8-ball into the subs bench for a 25 point value.

I thought Bobby Charlton would be a pick for maybe 3-4 teams. But actually he only made as part of Joey's DL survivors gimmick team. Thus Joey now shoots up by 49 points (35 base + 14 bonus).

John "요한" Sulu likewise breaks Oleg with a unique hit in the form of figure skater Oleg Protopopov. Mr. Sulu skates up the scoreboard by 42 points (30 base + 12 bonus).

And so only four teams, all hovering outside the top thirty, gain in the latest scoreboard, though I doubt Reptile is complaining about the dearth of action:

Hits roll incoming for November within the day... looking like it'll be Johnny Ruffo, Rosalynn Carter, Charles Peters, that fucker Kissinger, Shane MacGowan, Sandra Day O'Connor, and Glenys Kinnock. Also, doing a double check on current LotL-er Miiko Taka, I see that she gets namechecked in a Yahoo UK article from March that lists Hollywood deceaseds.

While it counts it doesn’t actually say what year she died - only that she died between the 2022 and 2023 Oscars.
Should the rules be amended to clearly state the year of death can come from a non Q/O source?  Sorry I am just a fan of rules being clear and covering all possible facts of a case.

IIRC DDP has accepted QOs where the only indication the person died was "the late suchandsuch" with no mention of when they died. When I open up the HPDP24 thread I can add a wee note that the date of death can be verified with non-QO sources.

I have to confess I thought this was the DDP 2023 thread when I commented and the hit roll  you talking about was updating the website.

November ahoy.

Right. Actress and Brando co-star Miiko Taka was one of the very first Sayonaras of the year but went notably under the radar. When her Hollywood Reporter obit didn't translate to Yahoo, and she didn't scrape by in any of the proper QOs, I thought that was that. But doing a triple check before the year's end uncovered the above and so it is a very belated 25 sub points for JoeMoneypenny.

Fast forwarding to more recent cadavers. Johnny Ruffo was a moderately popular selection in light of the downward swing in his brain cancer battle. Those feeling on top include MariNisia and The Old Crem with 35 points, msc and Perhaps with 30 points, Etushispushingupdaisies and Sean with 25 points, and BuffaloPhil the first sub likewise for 25.

Mrs. Peanut herself, Rosalynn Carter was considerably less popular than her husband but was still on a few teams. All three also picked Jimmy - more on that soon? 25 points for TheDumbReaper, 10 for arghton, and a second sub hit worth 50 points ThereWillBeDeaths7.

Charles Peters, the founder of US politics magazine Washington Monthly, was another John "요한" Sulu pulled straight from his elderly celebrity bible. Hot off the press are 42 points (30 base + 12 unique).

Henry Kissinger needs no introduction. Paving the way for Pol Pot alone would merit the crimes against humanity bonus. Let alone installing Pinochet too. Let alone all the other countries whose innocents he decimated in the name of America being the greatest. Tuber Mirum himself gave blessing to a heftier crimes against humanity bonus specifically for Kissinger. So for ole Beelzebub here I am according a +6 crimes against humanity bonus typically reserved for war criminal US presidents.

So those who gave the crane game a whirl and claw out a worthy reward are as follows:

My Nixon theme team is the biggest winner with 45 + 54 = 99 points.

LizLemon and Murdoc 40 + 48 = 88 points.

CaptainChorizo and TheKilingTime 35 + 42 = 77 points.

chilean way, Clarence, diego, and nantonian2013 30 + 36 = 66 points.

and Lord Fellatio Nelson, markb4, TheDumbReaper, and Young One 25 + 30 = 55 points.

Yin and yang goes, a much greater loss to the world followed Kissinger by mere hours in Shane MacGowan. The hard-living, gravity-defying Pogue grew in DP popularity recent years but remained a cult pick here, only being on one main team plus a subs bench. TheDumbReaper gains 49 points (35 base + 14 bonus) and The Unknown Man 50 for his second sub hit.

In an unanimous 9-0 decision, the US Supreme Court has ruled that their former justice Sandra Day O'Connor is dead. The verdict's ramifications have reverberated throughout the HPDP, with LizLemon successfully arguing the case of Reaper v. O'Connor to a total of 42 points (30 base + 12 bonus).

Rounding off this update is MEP and Neil's wife Glenys Kinnock. She was a unique pick for ThereWillBeDeaths7 worth 28 points (20 base + 8 bonus).

And so it's an update! DDT's eclectic ecclesiasticals are the only team left on nil points. Kissinger could well set up a riveting finale, with him boosting CaptainChorizo to second and the Kissinger+O'Connor combo taking LizLemon from midtable to fourth. At a brief glance, the chasing pack still need multiple hits to catch Reptile, but if we have a crazy December, or if a long-lost tape of Jimmy Carter Morris dancing on Hollywood Squares is uncovered, things could get spicy.

Qapik Attagutsiak has died. I see a Radio-Canada obituary for her in French

https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/2036136/nunavut-deces-doyenne-qapik-attagutsiak?depuisRecherche=true

the Hartlepool Deadlypool QO news sources list has the English-language Canadian Broadcasting Corporation but not its French-language service Radio-Canada.

Both news sources share the same emblem. If I see the CBC QO tomorrow I'll post it here.

Jacques Delors

I think that's all since the last update? Will post penultimate update tomorrow.

In what was a fairly low-key December for the Hartlepool, US sitcom gamechanger Norman Lear had stifled himself to get the ball rolling. Two teams had it made as they sing off key at the piano - 30 points apiece for diego and Lord Fellatio Nelson.

Qapik Attagutsiak was living history in her Inuit community, contributed to Canada's WWII effort by collecting bones to turn to weaponry, and had a cool name. Hers was an interesting enough life to get a Telegraph obit, though for the HPDP in particular CBC.ca meant she was never in any real danger of not QOing. Torva Messor collects 49 points worth of bones (35 base + 14 bonus).

The final two hits both came on the 27th. Reclusive gun billionaire Gaston Glock fended off assassination attempts and got embroiled in legal tangles before old age took aim and fired. GuyFromFuture gains from this Glock down, to a bullet rain of 49 points (35 base + 14 bonus).

Lastly was politician and EU innovator Jacques Delors, who bid "up yours" to 2024 in the waning days of the year. The Thatcher nemesis was a unique for our own Thatcher, who goes up your scoreboard by 28 points (20 base + 8 bonus).

Thus comes the penultimate scoreboard. The top 10 was completely unimpacted by these final few weeks, and short of a dramatic reveal that Rolf Harris had playing baseball among his litany of evils, it looks like we'll be crowning Reptile fairly soon. About 5 1/2 days to go until that final scoreboard, which will also account for the 13th place bonus, interesting teams bonus, and a triple check to see if any deaths slipped through the cracks.

Murdoc is now frantically googling "Rolf Harris playing with balls"

Did my final round of celeb checks and could not find any missed deaths. On with the final scoreboard. It isn't the first time a deadpool showrunner has said this, nor will it be the last, but it was a well-deserved victory for @gcreptile.

It was a rocky start to the year with the substitution nightmares of Pele and Pope Benny (and to a lesser extent Baba Wawa and Jeremiah Green), but the first proper hit was Frank McGarvey who took justonecornetto to an early lead. Gianluca Vialli truly opened the floodgates, and between him and two terminally-ill influencers, defending champion Banana returned to his familiar positioning at the top of the scoreboard by the month's end. However it was a marathon not a sprint, and the FFBI penalties hurt Banana in the long run. As did the two basketballers on his team, further down the road. Tim Lobinger kept him on top for the time being, but gcreptile vaulted into the contender's orbit thanks to sharing Lobinger and also hitting Tony Marshall on the same day.

Ryuichi Sakamato took perennial dark horse CaptainChorizo to the top, and then amidst the triple-bonus Rolf Harris points bonanza, Perhaps also had Tim Keller to keep the competition exciting. June was a masterstroke for gcreptile, with four hits to his name - the Unabomber, Teresa Taylor, Frederic Forrest, and Daniel N. Paul - that gave him a comfortable lead, and he buttressed it with Mutulu Shakur in July. He didn't have another hit after that, but didn't need to. The distance was vast enough that no one else could close the gap despite the best efforts of Henry Kissinger. His final winning margin was a hearty 94.95 points.

For a point in the summer, I thought Reptile would clinch the first clean sheet in HPDP history when James Whale and Jonnie Irwin seemed on their last legs. But that didn't pan out. Still, it was a HPDP for the history books, with five teams smashing the previous points record of 425, and Reptile the first to cross the 500-point barrier. A big part of that is Rolf Harris, and anyone who had him at base 50 points accrued 230 points from a single hit - 5 points more than previous holder Vanessa Marquez.

Though Marquez will forever be the greatest HPDP pick. Rolf, you knew you had to pick him to win; Marquez, that was a comeback for the ages.

The most interesting team bonus goes to arghton, who only had 10 organic points to his name thanks to Rosalynn Carter. Now he gets 20 more thanks to an intriguing assemblage that included side-by-side Onos, the Hulkster, and above all The Wizard of New Zealand. And 50 bonus points for placing in 13th go to msc.

And with that, the final scoreboard. Congrats, Reptile!

Aye, great dead pooling gcr - the only consolation for the rest of being that a few favoured 2023 picks - Whale, Irwin and the like - made 2024 selections easier!
