Theresa Taylor keeps my hopes alive - sitting 4th on my line up, just under the appaling waste of a pick that is John Cannan, but other than him at least mine are going in the right order. Q/o of a decent standard likely a shoo-in for her, it'll just take a day or two

3rd hit for me in 1,2,3 order.

Patricia Hamilton died back in April this year. Please forgive any oversight on my part but I can't see that she has been included in any of the updates @Death Impends

Thanks. Slipped under my radar. Any sign of QO? At a glance she got some Canadian press but not CBC, the only Canadian source the HPDP accepts.

Daniel N. Paul is another hit for me, also unique, it seems:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia

That's four hits in June. Sadly, death has skipped Mutulu Shakur and James Whale so far. So my team might be running out of gas soon, but maybe it's enough.

Ninth and tenth place both having base 40 points + unique still nothing to scoff at. Scoreboard won't be coming until the weekend but I think you'll be the one to beat.

I was the only one (?) in the upper score bracket to also have Ted Kaczynski. Depending on the bonuses, he might be worth about 100 points.

Jonnie Irwin is also a goner, imo. So I kind of see myself at roughly 600 points at the mid-year point with no room to grow.

A weird situation, because by all accounts, it should be enough, by a good measure. But it feels like it's being taken out of my hands. Shakur and James Whale aren't exactly looking like possible targets, Shakur more so than Whale actually, but are very much out of order for this.

Edit: Though I do want to say how pleased I am with the Forrest and Paul hits. The gofundme for Frederic Forrest predicted a death roughly mid-year. And I thought he might die pretty much exactly when he did. And Daniel N. Paul, as a "ready to go, but not quite yet", was also exactly right.

Planning on update this weekend.

Alain Touraine

Daniel N. Paul

Francoise Gilot

Frederic Forrest

John B. Goodenough

Pat Robertson

Silvio Berlusconi

Ted Kaczynski

Teresa Taylor

Winnie Ewing

I think that's everyone who died since last update? Along with Patricia Hamilton being LotL.

June's been a banner month at Hartlepool headquarters with a double-digit cavalcade of cadavers to report on. The parade is kicked off artfully by Francoise Gilot, painter and Picasso muse. The selection proves a masterstroke for Pedro67, who plants 63 points (45 base + 18 bonus) on the canvas.

Old codger fundie cunt Pat Robertson was on Thatcher's subs bench, and he rejoices to a choir of 25 points for this downed Pat.

Alain Touraine stays mainly in the plain... Touraine, a French sociologist noted for his studies of the May 68 and Solidarity movements, was picked by WEP. He receives 49 points (35 base + 14 bonus).

Unabomber Ted Kaczynski was already an appealing prospect for the Crimes Against Humanity bonus in acknowledgment of his body count, and for the cherry on top, he hung himself rather than face the final throes of terminal cancer. 7 teams won't be going postal at this explosion of points:

gcreptile, Hell, and Joey Russ deliver 35 base + 42 bonus = 77 total.

John Key 30 + 36 = 66.

The Unknown Man and wannamaker 25 + 30 = 55.

and 25 sub points for TheKillingTime, whose theme team of ne'er do wells is now on the board.

Silvio Berlusconi was in fact more popular here than on the DDP, though still considerably shy of a bunga bunga party. Two teams gain from the corrupto Italy PM getting the boot - Joey Russ lands his first sub for 25 point, while Murdoc gets his second for 50.

A drummer in hospice care was always going to intrigue the HPDP, and the Butthole Surfers' Teresa Taylor proved no exception. Five teams pick up the slack: An Fear Beag drums up 70 points (50 base + 20 bonus), Banana and maryportfuncity 63 (45 + 18), Book 49 (35 + 14), and gcreptile 42 (30 + 12).

SNP stalwart and godmother of the Scottish independence movement Winnie Ewing proves a winning pick for nantonian2013, who isn't winging it to 63 points (45 base + 18 bonus).

A body falls in the form of actor Frederic Forrest, and three teams were there to hear it. gcreptile stood alone in having him as a main team pick, gaining 56 points (40 base + 16 bonus), while LizLemon hits his first sub for 25 points and Perhaps his second for 50.

Go Johnny go! Johnny B. Goode...enough. Nobel laureate and battery guru John B. Goodenough was picked by John "요한" Sulu, who charges up 28 points (20 base + 8 bonus).

Finishing off the month was Canadian Mi'kmaq elder Daniel N. Paul. His history of his people, We Were Not the Savages, was reputed enough in Canada that he was always a likely bet for some CBC.ca coverage. One team who is savage is gcreptile, who was on fire in June with four hits to his name. As with Frederic Forrest, the Paul haul for him is 56 points (40 base + 16 bonus).

And indeed, Reptile was in charge of both the month and the scoreboard at large. After a tighter race for much of the year, he opens up a healthy lead of 130 points at the halfway point. As noted above, it's a strong spot to be in, but not invincible - Reptile has a maximum of 115 further potential points through three survivors, while most of the chasing pack have more tools to work with - six survivors for Perhaps, nine for each of An Fear Beag and maryportfuncity.

At any rate, I'm fairly certain this is the first time anyone has broken the 500-point barrier in the HPDP, so it's bound to be a record breaking year no matter who comes out on top. The latest scoreboard is below:

Onwards with the latest update.

Activist and jailbird Mutulu Shakur was a cult pick for title-vying teams. Just when you thought gcreptile was out of steam, he scores another hit worth 30 points. Also gaining are Banana with 40 points, Funeralopolis with 30, and Book with 25 sub points.

Though Milan Kundera became something of a deadpooling sensation this year after Czech media reports of his failing health, he was a mere solo here. Only MariNisia czeched her list twice, and gains 35 points (25 base + 10 bonus).

How tf did I forget Tony Bennett in the recap post above? Though granted, Tony Bennett forgot about Tony Bennett too. Was expecting to see a Squares appearance or two nestled in his long and celebrated career, though surprisingly none. So it is the standard pack of points for his pickers: Gooseberry Crumble gets 40 points, John "요한" Sulu 35, Thatcher and TheDumbReaper 20, The Young One 15, and Sean 25 sub points.

Benson actress Inga Swenson hadn't appeared on the DDP since 2019, but she found a home on the HPDP as a perennial pick for GuyFromFuture. Another US entertainment figure who dodged the Squares bonus - her game show appearances were limited to Family Feud and Password - GFF gains 21 points (15 base + 6 bonus) from Inga's swan song.

George Alagiah was a ways behind Rolf Harris and Gianluca Vialli in the popularity stakes due to lacking the bonuses of the former or the imminence of the latter, but still was a solidly popular pick. 18 teams find themselves in the headlines as the Beeb man signs off:

Great Uncle Bulgaria, markb4, and Pedro67 gain 45 points.

CaptainChorizo and RadGuy 40.

BabyBlue, Funeralopolis, and Perhaps 35.

DeathBecomesThem, John Key, and The Old Crem 30.

The Unknown Man 25.

Toast 20.

chilean way 15.

Clarence 10.

and Hell, thenantonian2013, and theoldlady 25 sub points.

Tears of a clown are being shed for Jango Edwards. When I used that gag on msc, he feared Smokey Robinson had died. But better to go the Smokey reference than the Jerry Lewis reference. Anywho, he was a risky DDP prospect who still awaits proper UK press but El Pais is sufficient for the HPDP circus - now that he's Mr. No Jangos, RadGuy gains 40 points and MariNisia 35, while YorkshireBanker hits his first sub for 25 points and Book his second for 50.

Lastly, French historian Hélène Carrère d'Encausse is now encased in a coffin, and a unique hit for WEP worth 35 points (25 base + 10 bonus).

And now, the latest scoreboard. Many scores have increased, but the narrative is similar to last month - Reptile is the one to beat, but with only 85 potential points left, those chasing him retain more upward potential.

Bob Barker is a hit for many of us.

Not a very eventful past month, with only the trio mentioned above, and Henry Dickerson, scoring as far as I can see. No Parky or Al-Fayed.

Banana really needed Henry Dickerson, his last surviving differential from Reptile, to deliver for him, though it probably still wouldn't be enough to close the gap. It definitely won't be given Dickerson's resume as a basketball player and coach. Ergo he is docked 8 points (40 base - 48 bonus).

Vaguely interesting tidbit is that August in the DDP and August in the HPDP covered a completely different nonagenarian Spanish cyclist. The DDP cadaver was Federico Bahamontes, while UCI Track Cycling World Champion Guillermo Timoner was the one chosen here. He also worked as a carpenter, and MariNisia was his lady in the HPDP, inching out of the peloton through a 35-point boost (25 base + 10 bonus).

Senator/presidential advisor/judge James L. Buckley was one of the very few individuals in US history to serve in all three branches of US government. He adds to that lifetime of public services a hit for markb4 worth 35 points (25 base + 10 unique).

Lastly, the only multi-hit name this update was Bob Barker. Seven teams come on down for the Price is Right host who also appeared on Hollywood Squares: An Fear Beag wins 72 points, (45 base + 27 bonus), Murdoc 64 (40 base + 24 bonus), Great Uncle Bulgaria 56 (35 base + 21 bonus), chilean way, Clarence, and TheDumbReaper 40 (25 base + 15 bonus) and markb4 lands his second sub for 50 points.

Latest scoreboard is below. The biggest change is An Fear Beag taking the bronze, all the while still having eight survivors to work with in these final four months.
