John Nott was British Secretary of State and Commerce, he was the oldest still alive (not in age) as he was in 79-81, in 1983 the name of the portfolio changed to Secretary of State for Commerce and Industry and the oldest still living (not in age) is Norman Beresford Tebbit, Baron Tebbit born in 1931 and held the position between 83-85, he was Secretary of State for Defense between 81-83 also being the oldest still alive who held the position, since it now belongs to his successor Michael Heseltine who was between 83-86, he was born in 1933. I say in terms of how long he held the position and not in age
