Sod's Law 452 Posted June 9 I'd think if I was going to start mountain climbing, I would let someone know where I was going and taken extra care not to leave behind my phone in case of trouble. Either way, hugely tragic loss.

Either way, hugely tragic loss. My parents each have an airtag on their keys now. Also my mum knows where my dad is due to iphone tracking. This is mainly because dad often goes out for cycle rides even though he's in his 70s. Downside is I don't have an Iphone so I can't find them, lol.

maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted June 10 Natural causes from initial post mortem findings and also CCTV footage of the moment he disappears behind the wall (implication being they've got him collapsing - albeit from a distance) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1dd7ekyrpyo
Grim Up North 3,727 Posted June 10 He set off at 1:30 local time, it’s about a mile to where he was found dead, admittedly over mountainous terrain but time of death given as 4pm - I wonder what time CCTV of him collapsing was as the timeline suggests he was there alive for a while within a few 100 metres of people. If I was his wife and family I would not take any comfort from that - quite the opposite.
Toast 16,162 Posted June 10 "A bar manager found his body after the island's mayor "saw something" by the fence of the bar and alerted staff". That explains why his wife said that "he so very nearly made it" . Still, if he dropped dead of a heart attack or an aneurysm or anything like that it's doubtful he could have been saved, given the remoteness of the place. I listened to the interview literally just after they announced they found it.

The bar manager quote is from the BBC report linked above. Could both be true, I suppose.
Grim Up North 3,727 Posted June 11 Final steps He did take the full 2 and a half hours to go the 1.5 miles (plus wrong way distance).
harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,696 Posted June 11 Who knew he was a national treasure, eh. Is he getting a state funeral? Maybe a Norwegian doctor was climbing the same hill but took the correct path.
