Freda Gillis, the oldest living person in Newfoundland & Labrador, died December 5th.  She was 108.  Gillis' death was reported January 11th.  Her age had been validated on the Gerontology Wikia site, though it may be removed shortly, upon news of her death.

Little list of master athletes who seem to be really indestructible, though they are known for no reason other than their longevity. Anyway I think almost all of them will live past 110, and someone (cough cough Fauja Singh) past 115. Here they are:

*Stanislaw Kowalski (1910), oldest man in Poland too

*Hidekichi Miyazaki (1910), known as the Golden Bolt.

*Fauja Singh (1911), the Sikh Tornado.

*Robert Marchand (1911), cyclist and commie.

*Mieko Nagaoka (1914) Japanese swimmer

*Ida Keeling (1915)

*Donald Pellmann (1915) broke Miyazaki's records

*Giuseppe Ottaviani (1916)

*Frederico Fischer (1917) current champ

*Ugo Sansonetti (1919) manager and athlete

Though they all seem ridicolous while doing their activities, I swear there is a good possibility at least one of these ten lives past 120.

Oh, so now Gustav Gerneth takes the crown - a german for the first time since "first world's oldest man" Friedrich Wedeking.

As a sign of how serious Turkey is celebrating democracy with their upcoming elections, they registered 165-year old Ayse Ekici, 149-year old "Zulfu" (no last name) and 148-year old "Ayse" (no last name) to vote:

Also, there is one apartment that houses approximately 1000 people.

They coulda just made them in their 90s or something but Turkey just had to try and claim bragging rights by having the worlds oldest people.

As reported elsewhere, Miyazaki has died aged 108 of a sudden stroke.

8 divided by 5 isn't 1.3, though.

3 is the remainder.

Give her a break, she hasn't been taught fractions and decimals yet.

Shimoe Akiyama

Lives in Nagoya, Japan
3rd oldest living, 28th oldest ever

No photo, no nothing. This may change if she one day becomes the oldest person in Japan, but Tanaka is making that more unlikely with every passing day.

And that's exactly what happened. Shimoe Akiyama died on Tuesday aged 115 years, 255 days. English language obit not going to happen.

Pathologist whose older brother David fell just shy of 110. He still rides his exercise bike daily and works very closely with his doctor to improve his health. He's quite charming and he's not ready to slow down yet.

Robert Wiener dead at 110, as announced by his son.
