The top unhinged comment from the 110 Club (so far) regarding her death:

I'm saddened by this news, which would have happened at some point no matter what (I even shouted “Noooooooo!!!” like a madman because I wasn't expecting it).  :(

Heh.... I was expecting it. She was the only one among the top 4 that did not seem like she could go on for some more.

Naomi Whitehead is the new doyenne of the USA, she looks good at 114 years, the current dean of the USA is Eugene Baltes at 109 years, he will turn 110 next week (although maybe there is a man older than him)

So, re Ethel Caterham, it isn't quite the nail-biter of Jimmy Carter's canter to 100 years old but...if she sees 9 April she becomes the oldest British person ever, currently held by Charlotte Hughes who died in 1993

She seems mentally alert, although scant details are available about her physical health from the coverage from a few months back. I'd say her odds are more likely than not.

Yeah, I might suggest that on behalf of dead poolers everywhere the producers start considering a quota of one super-centenarian for every series of Big Brother, that'll catch on, right?

Who do you guys think are the strongest cases of 1910, and also which if the “younger” SCs do you think have the most potential? Catherina van der Linden definitely stands out to me as one as she still works out at the gym, Herlda Senhouse is in my opinion probably the best-looking person in early 1911 as she gave a full interview earlier this year and can still stand/walk as far as I know

Herlda Senhouse reportedly dead aged 113: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/11/18/metro/herlda-senhouse-centenarian-oldest-person-us-longevity/

Was 2nd oldest living person in the States, and 2nd oldest living African-American – behind 114 year old Naomi Whitehead.

2nd oldest living American is now Bonita Gibson b. July 1911 (113)
2nd oldest living African-American is now Rosie Cook b. May 1912 (112)

Wow, that's really cool, I'm glad to hear that, you must have been very proud when she achieved this position of being the oldest living person in Albania, she is also the oldest person in history who was born and died in Albania, and the 17th oldest in the history of the Balkans.

It's not really something you train for, like a marathon or an exam. You're starting to sound like one those cranks from the 110 Club forum.

Not dying for 110 years is quite an achievement though!

The only supercentenarian I have ever met had insanely good genes and a lot of luck but she was always very determined and insanely active until about 108 which I think probably helped her immensely.

Then again a friend of mines great Nan died aged 109 last year and lived a fulfilling but unremarkable life in how she approached things or took care if herself other than a positive attitude so who knows.

Italian Fusa turns 112

Ines Sommovigo (Nov 1911) = Italian Fusa

Winnie Felps (Oct 1911) = American Fusa

Piedad Loriente Perez (Sep 1911) = Spanish Fusa

Lets see if any of them make it to 113

Piedad Loriente Perez dead at 113.

Only Felps left, and that's pretty impressive she is somehow still alive.

Once you get to very old age (90s and beyond), you're depending an awful lot on luck. A healthy lifestyle and taking care of yourself will give you a much better chance of making it to old age in the first place, but beyond a certain point there's so much that's out of your control that you've really just got to hope for the best.

Which supercentenarian did you meet?

I don't feel comfortable naming her as I provided her home care so still feel bound by confidentiality.Last saw her a few months before she died and although ailing could still walk faster than most 50 year olds.

He looks horrendous. I would expect Tinniswood to outlive him, but who knows.

That was the kiss of death for Tinners... That and the report into the Captain Tom grift being released. No age to go.
