Sir Creep 7,071 Posted July 1, 2015 Bruce Rowland has died. Sad news. Here's Fairport Convention on STV with Flowers of the Forest: https://youtu.be/GH0UC1J8IIU Yes rather melancholy. I have some Richard Thompson solo stuff, that's as close to the Fairport Convention as I've ever gotten I dare say. RIP SC

DevonDeathTrip 2,365 Posted July 18, 2015 This is from April, but apparently folk is the musical genre which has the highest rate of deaths from cancer. I thought the table below might appeal to some stats enthusiasts Several more charts and graphs here.

If only they had the bottle to off themselves like hard metal men, or off each other like rappers they'd snag us high DDP points for early deaths, or summat.

Isn't cancer what you get when everything else has failed to kill you. Hence as we tackle heart-disease and infections cancer rates will rise. I heard on the radio yesterday that 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime.
gcreptile 11,056 Posted July 20, 2015 This is from April, but apparently folk is the musical genre which has the highest rate of deaths from cancer. I thought the table below might appeal to some stats enthusiasts Several more charts and graphs here. Fascinating. And the statistics confirm all the clichés. Smoke-filled jazz clubs lead to lung cancer, and rappers all shoot each other. Well, it's not quite that obvious because the 30,6% of cancer-related deaths in Jazz isn't all that different from the 24,7% in rock, but one can easily construct a fitting narrative. Edit: Also another related article linked from that one, is this one here: https://theconversation.com/the-27-club-is-a-myth-56-is-the-bum-note-for-musicians-33586 It's about the arbitrariness of the 27 Club, and that it would be more logical to make up a "56 Club". But just because the age of 56 is the one when musicians die most often, it still accounts for only 2,3% of all dying musicians, so picking random 56-year old musicians is a worse strategy than picking random U.S. males at age 71 (but better than random U.S. males at 70).
