He was born in 1920. Wikipedia's living centenarians category had him having been born in 1919, it's because of that East Asian Age Reckoning, but we have a picture of his passport that confirms he wasn't born then.

The Nepali VP saying he'll be discharged soon...Almost goes into the same category as the health minister of Maharashtra saying Lata Mangeshkar had "completely recovered" a week before her death and Shivakumara Swami recovering three days before his death. And I'm sure there have been ton of similar cases in notable Asians

I'm amazed by how tough Kaikala Satyanarayana has turned out to be. 87, permanent tracheostomy seemingly connected to either oxygen or a ventilator since multiple organ failure, septic shock and other ailments in November 2021.

Known health issues: Pneumonia and pulmonary edema in 2014, heart disease and ICU in 2021, hospitalised three times in 2022 with just everything.

Cause of death: Complications from dengue, heart disease, prostate cancer, lung failure..... yada yada yada

Alignment: Great writer and folklorist, beloved in Nepal. Very good guy overall, just he never died.

By the way, BBC Nepali also published an article on Joshi's death, that for example mentions he was on his "deathbed" with malaria in 1944.

 

V. S. Achuthanandan is 99 today. New article. He'll celebrate at home with no visitors as doctors have put him in home quarantine due to the fact that he's extremely frail and any infection could probably kill him.

What I found interesting in this article was this part:

At this point must be one of the oldest CMs ever. Morarji Desai lived 41 days past 99, Sikkim's first CM Kazi Lhendup Dorjee lived to 102. Also one of the last of CPIM's "old guard" with N. Sankaraiah, maybe Nabeesa Ummal and Paloli Mohammed Kutty. P. K. Gurudasan, TK Hamza, Anathalavattom Anandan, S. Ramachandran Pillai, Vaikom Viswan, Pirappancode Murali, fellow immortal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Pinarayi Vijayan could be a bit too young to be considered old guard. CPIM has produced a lot of immortals.

2)Jerry Lee Lewis (1935): major drug addict, father of 5000 illegittimate children and suffered major stroke in 2019. Honoring his namesake's legacy.

3)Bob Barker (1923): Stroke in 1991 and 2002, prostate ailments and twice hospitalised after falling in recent years. Only alive because Sir Cunto said he wouldn't make it to 95.

4)Rafiq Tarar (1929-2022): this guy looked like a zombie in 2017! That's 5 fucking years!!! Widowed in 2020.

5)Shahabuddin Ahmed (1930-2022): looked like a zombie in early 2018, when he survived a long hospitalization for gastric hemorrhage. Reportedly gravely ill and receiving treatment early this year.

With Tu Tongjin and Zhang Lixiong there's actually a suprisingly large amount of info on them on the internet for ancient Asian politicians (and both much more interesting figures than the thousands of 70-something Indian MLAs with English wiki pages), both have long Baike pages. Tu Tongjin was also interviewed by Los Angeles Times in January 2008.

Article from last week on Ma Shitu, 107 today. Doesn't have new pictures but seems like he's still writing and will have a birthday celebration. Only 3/30 dead from my main suggestions list this far and none from the top 10, they're doing very well..Really interesting how Otis Taylor is still alive, but we'll see if he makes it to 2023. Logically should've died a decade ago and in July he seemed to have a few weeks to live. The Patriarch of Crete is also pretty impressive, at 89 he's survived with ALS longer than many half his age. It's also over two years since he had a tracheotomy.

Sorry for the late answer, there was no photo, as far as I know he hasn't been photographed in decades due to his poor health condition. He was already connected to tubes around seven years ago.
