Stan Lee turns 89 on 28th December, but seems to be showing absolutely no signs of slowing down

"Stan Lee never left, and it appears his mind is not in mint condition."

How about Albert Uderzo - the Asterix illustrator? Nearly 80 and, erm, well that's old.

Yes please, make him stop. His cartoons are getting worse and worse.

Hmphr grmbl,

Hein

Good news for Hein; he's retiring.

Good news indeed. Let's hope what that article calls 'a younger artist' includes somebody who knows how to write a script. From the same news I learned that our hero Gerard Depardieu is to play Obelix again in a new Asterix film, this time playing in Britain. I suppose the scenes with warm beer and Gallic wine will work quite well.

regards,

Hein

Cartoonist David Langdon, famous for his wartime cartoons featuring Billy Brown from London Town, as well as appearing in Punch, and The Mirror, has died aged 97.

His obituary was written by his fellow cartoonist, Denis Gifford, who died in 2000.

Czech animator and illustrator Zdeněk Miler has died aged 90.

His most famous creation is Krtek, the mole, who has even flown on the space shuttle.

Never seen him before but Krtek > Pingu.

Happy, if vaguely sinister, childhood memories = unique DDP hit, assuming an obituary in TV Cream*.

The Mole was an allegory of the plucky Czech people's battle against their tyrannical Soviet oppressors. Just like Roobarb.

*If this fucker doesn't get an obit I'm going to dig a million holes in my nearest farmer's field.

Edit: I guess this qualifies, according to the rules. http://uk.reuters.com/article/2011/11/30/czech-miler-krtek-idUKL5E7MU6MR20111130

I'm sure he did that out of spite. Rules are the rules though, no points for 2011...

That's unlucky. One dead pool I'm in closes on Jan 5th as it always takes a few days for deaths at the end of the year to hit the press.

Bah! I'd have finished in the top ten if the news had come through in time (the Theme Team Top ten that is). Still, it won't be the first time I've started with a 19 man team.

C'est La Vie (or summat).

This might shed some light

Every cloud: It was the least Christmassy Christmas ever, but at least I was spared the threat of Sir Jimmy Savile rocking up on the ward dressed as Santa

I think Stephen Fry might be the only person still living who uses the term poorly to actually mean "a little bit unwell" rather than as a euphemism for "this cunt is gonna be ghost in two weeks". Weird how all Daily Mail "humour" writers use exactly the same editorial voice.
