EE is absolute shite though.

Emmerdale is the best out of the two, imo, as well.

Heresy. The point was more that EE is completely dropping off a cliff ratings wise and while Corrie is obviously nowhere near that state all it would take is a few bad producers and it could be. Hopefully it never happens though, obviously.

If they want to do any talking heads features about the really early years of the show for the 60th anniversary they have a limited number of surviving cast members to choose from. These are the folk who were introduced in those years and remain alive. (Although it's worth being absolutely clear her that Barbara Knox appeared in a single episode in the 1960s here and were it not for her 1970s return would not be included on this list). Highlighted anyone of relative note in the era of 60-65 in bold. Rest are primarily bit parters.

Some soap clip shows narrated by Jason Manford for Corrie and Emmerdale coming to ITV and Secrets of the Square coming to BBC One to fill the soap opera production gap.

Might give a good chance to catch some talking heads depending on how these are set up.

Specials on Liz McDonald, Ken Barlow, Roy Cropper and Sally Metcalfer.

The William Roache one might be good form hunting if the 88 year old turns up.....

If the classic shows are covered we might get some talking heads off those days as well, although primarily seems to be clip based.

Sounds like Roache will appear going by the description on ITV's website.

The Emmerdale specials include an interview with Frazer Hines as well - another good form hunting choice.

Up to the end of 1969 and with it the first of 6 corrie decades (probably 7 by the time I'm done) to sift through.

This is who I have as living from episodes between 9th December 1960 and 31st December 1969 - as with the previous list minor characters have been ignored and I've attempted to stick to notable characters but a few nobodies might have made it through the cracks....... 70s will be added in the next update. So Corrie are building up this idea of a 'big community event' more and more as they realise they can't really do explosions/bombs and car crashes this time round for the anniversary.

I'm calling it now as the death of Ken Barlow or Rita Sullivan/Tanner whatever her name is now.

Through neither of them will be allowed on set to film it. It feels linked to the New Ray Character and him probably wanting to demolish the street.

They should be on set by September/October which is when the 60th episodes will be filmed.

I don't think it's got anything to do with Ray to be frank - hopefully he'll be gone long before then.

There is zero chance of the characters of Ken Barlow or Rita being killed off unless and until the actors playing them say they want to leave the show permanently. Or until they die, obviously . I predict their characters deaths will only follow the actors deaths , in several years time !

I will be surprised if they let two people in their late 80's anywhere near the studio anytime this year - and even if they do it probably one be to film short scenes alone to get them involved in the the 60th.

Depends whether Bill takes after his mum or his dad - the evidence so far is his mum. I know Bill has often expressed his desire to remain in the show until he goes, but surely at some point this becomes completely impractical?

His dad live 1901 - 1982 (81 years)

His mum live 1900 - 1996 (96 years)

An average of the two is 88 years 6 months - so about October 2020

For some context as to just how fucking long William Roache has been Ken bloody Barlow.

The following long-serving Coronation Street actors would need to leave in the following years to match his current record if he left tomorrow. I'll redo this when he eventually does fucking leave......

Barbara Knox who has been in the show 48 years would need to leave in 2032 at the age of 98 [RITA]

Helen Worth who has been in the show 46 years would need to leave in 2034 at the age of 83 [GAIL]

Michael Le Vell who has been in the show 36 years would need to leave in 2044 at the age of 79 [KEVIN]

Sue Nicholls who has been in the show 36 years would need to leave in 2044 at the age of  100 [AUDREY]

Sally Dyvenor who has been in the show 34 years would need to leave in 2046 at the age of 83 [SALLY]

Simon Gregson who has been in the show 30 years would need to leave in 2050 at the age of 75 [STEVE]

David Neilson who has been in the show 25 years would need to leave in 2055 at the age of 106 [ROY]

Alan Halsall who has been in the show 22 years would need to leave in 2058 at the age of  75 [TYRONE]

Jimmi Harkishin who has been in the show 21 years would need to leave in 2059 at the age of 94 [DEV]

Jack P. Shepherd who has been in the show 20 years would need to leave in 2060 at the age of 72 [DAVID]

Sue Cleaver who has been in the show 20 years would need to leave in 2060 at the age of 96 [EILEEN]

Malcolm Hebden who has been in the show 20 years would need to leave in 2060 at the age of 120 [NORRIS]

I can't be arsed to do those who've been in it less than 20 years but a few could be in contention in the late 2060s/early 2070s.

Beverley Callard who plays Liz McDonald has recently left and will air her final scenes in July but were she to stay on she'd have had to leave in 2057 at the age of 100 to beat Bill Roache

And obviously these dates get pushed back a day every day Ken remains in the fucking show and then every day another one on the list stays in after that. And this assumes they don't take a break from the show to do other stuff - which has been taken out of the above (that's where 6 years went for Norris for example).

I've tried to hunt down some details on these four on Ancestry or the GRO. I found nothing as the surnames are too common.

Beatrice Neild (or Nield) is most likely deceased. From the one or two pics that do exist of her, I'd put her DOB somewhere around 1900–1910.

Maureen O'Reilly – can't find a pic at all of her but possibly deceased given the age of the character she played at the time.

Moore and Williams are probably alive, but long given up acting and faded into obscurity!

He was also a comedian, a panto star, a quiz show host and a bit of a chanter (was he on the 1978 Ally's Army single?).

I couldn't bring myself to categorise him, which is why I went straight for the Dead of 2020 thread.

I thought I would put him on here as he was probably most famous for his part in River City in his last years.I fully acknowledge his many other talents though!
