Death List Had Made It.

Recommended Posts

I've expanded DeathList's mention from Quatloo's one line, he keeps reverting back though, a battle is on.

Silly, but satisfying.

I am thoroughly and truly sick of Qualtoo. He is a nobody who, as far as I can tell, has done almost nothing on Wikipedia since he joined a few weeks ago except work against the Death List article. True, the fight was lost on our part to keep it in its own article, but the consensus was merge in full and thus Qualtoo is violating Wikipedia consensus, which means he can be reported, warned and, if necessary, stopped.

He's very selective when responding to criticism, and I think I've made enough valid points to not want to waste my time arguing anymore.

Meanwhile, I suggest we keep thinking (or act upon) ways of making Death List more notable. There were good suggestions a few pages back in the thread.

I still don't get what right this Qualtoo being, as a single individual, has to change what is obviously the wishes of multiple individuals. Is there someone I can speak to about this? I can be very persuasive when need be...

I am going over the steps to the dispute resolution process, but I've got too much to do tonight to figure out exactly what I want to do just yet...

Who is the Gretnagod who started the article. tried to get it banned, tried to save it and is now trying to restore it???

It's all a bit strange. I blame Himler.

From what i've heard the guest known as Himler has now been banned. There were many arguments concerning who Gretnagod truely was but I suppose Himler

anwsers the question. :P

But can they since he isn't a member?

According to one member it wasn't possible but as far as I see it he's gone. ;)

For those of you unaware of the gripping drama currently unfolding in the world of Wikipedia, allow me to provide a play-by-play summation of the action thus far:

07.02.06

Nemesis Qualtoo "merges" the DL article into the Dead Pool article, as was the consensus of the previous vote. Qualtoo's "merge" at this point involves a complete deletion of anything DL related, less a weblink at the bottom of the Dead Pool page.

08.02.06

@00:40: Gretnagod addes the entire original DL article, stating: "Now its a proper merge, which was what the AFD vote decided."

@00:44: Qualtoo removes GG's insertion in its entirety, stating: "'The Death List' is barely notable. It certainly does not deserve this much exposition."

@00:45: Gretagod inserts this edit:

deadpoolpage8th.jpg

and states: "Okay then, how about this much?"

@00:47: Qualtoo removes edit, stating: "No, that is still way too much."

@00:48: Gretnagod shortens edit even further, stating: "This much?"

@00:52, Qualtoo states nothing, removing GG's last edit and adding the sentence: Another dead pool, the ''Death List'' (dating to 1987), is a list of fifty names selected by committee.

09.02.06

Throughout the day, various very small changes to the dead pool article are made by unnamed IP addresses, only to be altered by Qualtoo, who appears to be on a mission.

Now this is where it gets really interesting:

@19:38: RMHED re-adds the edit reprinted above, and over the course of the next couple of hours, a little tweaking occurs by RMHED and Gretnagod. But!...

@23:47: Qualtoo deletes entire DL section, stating: "discussion of non-notable website, alexa ranking 114,621." So...

@23:58: RMHED re-adds edit, stating: "Alexa ranking has increased significantly, and is likely to continue"

@00:00: Qualtoo removes edit, stating: "discussion of non-notable website, alexa ranking *presently* 114,621"

@00:10: RMHED re-adds edit, stating: "Deathlist feature deserves more prominence, due to unique nature"

@00:12: Qualtoo removes edit, stating: "maybe so, but this non-notable website does not need half this article. low alexa ranking"

@00:23: RMHED re-adds edit, stating: "I suggest then that you Quatloo expand the article on the dead pool"

@00:46: Qualtoo removes edit, stating: "non-notable website, alexa ranking 114,621"

@00:54: RMHED re-adds edit, stating: "unique dead pool variant website"

And that, folks, is where things stand at the moment, as Qualtoo appears to have popped down the shops and is therefore not on hand to delete the re-entry. It is currently 1:22, so bets are on to see how long it'll be before Qualtoo is able to resume his/her campaign of terror in the DL/Dead Pool article.

Now, I'm sure you're all wondering why I've elected to reprint the play-by-play here, given that y'all could simply log into Wiki and have a look for yourselves. Well, it's because I wanted to make it clear just how bizarrely obsessive Qualtoo (Note: Qualtoo... not me!) appears to be about the DL entry, for no apparent reason. I'd like you all to note as well the relatively weak reasoning s/he provides for the continuous deletions.

Finally, I'd like to you also to note that it is ONLY Qualtoo - one individual!! - who is doing this! If we all banded together like the true 'family' I know we are, we could quash Qualtoo and his/her attempt to deny us the glory we deserve. Even if you couldn't give a toss about the DL entry in Wiki, as far as I'm concerned you should be fighting to save it exclusively out of principle.

[PS. Is there any chance Qualtoo is IYG? I know next-to-nothing about the problems that led to IYG's banning from the DL, but I understand that it might have led to some bitterness? Could this be a revenge of sorts?]

Canadian Paul, do we really want Deathlist to be more notable? Do we really need a Wiki entry?

The only thing heightened publicity seems to have brought us up to now is a flood of idiots hijacking our favourite threads.

Has anyone asked the boss what he thinks? Doubt it.

That said, Qualtoo is a complete jerk and needs sorting out. Is there a way of seeing the IP number of registered Wiki contributors? I haven't been able to work it out.

Well folks, after what must have been an agonising several hours for our antihero Qualtoo, s/he has reappeared to edit once again.

However, this time it was not the blanket deletion as per the many times before. No! It would appear that protagonist RMHED wore him/her down. Resultantly, Qualtoo has deined us worthy of four - that's four! - sentences. In this most recent edit, 10.02.06 @ 22:00, Qualtoo has allocated the following:

Death List, dating to 1986, is unlike a dead pool, in that it is a list of fifty names on the list are chosen by a committee. Followers of Death List then track the well-being of the chosen celebrities over the course of the year. To qualify for a position, the person involved must have been famous enough for their death to be announced in the UK media, and that they were famous for more than just their impending death.

The question is now: are we happy with this? By 'this', I do not mean the actual entry. What I mean is: Are we happy to allow Qualtoo to decide that these four sentences are entry enough? I again ask: who is this "Qualtoo" to decide what size entry the DL should have? On the other hand, is continuous warring really worth it? Is poor RMHED (who receives full snaps for effort, as far as I'm concerned) too battle-weary to continue?

[Note: Have just read Qualtoo's entry again. It's really very poorly written. This person should not have editorial control over anything!]

[Further note: Right. I've now edited the Wiki entry by improving the grammar and syntax. I couldn't let it lie - it was just so badly written!! I have not extended the DL section at all.]

I say we let sleeping dogs lie for the moment and not do anymore editing. Notapotato does have a point, although I think if we were more popular, the benefits would outway the negatives and we could always deal with unregistered ranters.

For now, let's just leave it. It might be the best we can get for the moment.

Right all -

Are you aware that the Wiki Wars are unfolding, all around us, as I type this message?! We really do have a VERY exciting battle afoot:

Our hero, RMHED* continues to rage against the machine that is Qualtoo.

Archnemesis of the DL Qualtoo** continues to torment the DP/DL page.

Recent edits (aka since my last update, above) stand as follows:

11.02.06

Four removal edits by Qualtoo (21:14, 21:22, 23:24, 23:25); two addition edits by RMHED (19:03, 23:04) [Editor's note: Quiet day yesterday. I believe a peaceful game of football occurred at some point, as well.]

12.02.06

Action today has played out thus:

@ 00:00: RMHED edits, stating: added internal link

@ 00:25: Quatloo edits, stating: rv changes

@ 01:56: RMHED edits, stating: rv needless rv

@ 02:18: RMHED edits, stating: added external link

@ 02:34: Quatloo edits, stating: rv changes

@ 02:48: RMHED edits, stating: rv edits

@ 03:22: Qualtoo edits, stating: rv changes

@ 14:21: RMHED edits, stating: rv

@ 20:26: Quatloo edits, stating: rv changes

@ 20:37: RMHED edits, stating: rv changes

@ 20:49: Quatloo edits, stating: rv changes

@ 20:52: RMHED edits, stating: rv poor judgement changes

@ 20:54: Quatloo edits, stating: rv changes

@ 21:15: RMHED edits, stating: rv changes

Oof! I'm all hot and bothered from the excitement! Seems like as the competition has gotten more and more fierce, words have become superfluous. The gauntlet is well and truly down.

Remember folks: just because the cameras have gone home, doesn't mean the war isn't still being waged.

*who is not an obsessive nutter, as he is our hero.

**who is an obsessive nutter, for obvious reasons.

Anyone else notice Wikipedia's been down most of the day? I'd love to think this was due to some clever DL member's hacking as revenge for them not giving us a proper entry.

That would be rather good.

But Wiki's knocking on death's door anyway because it has got too big and noone is giving them much sponsorship.

Wikipedia should be on DL, not the other way around!

That's an excellent suggestion. Wiki has been getting far too big for its boots lately. Think they'll make it to Dec 31?

I suspect that Wiki could be taken over soon by the forces of commercialism,

I Expect it will be given a corporate make-over and be carrying advertising.

My goodness, are things ever heating up!

After the following skirmish yesterday:

@ 00:22: Quatloo (rv changes)

@ 00:27: 88.107.27.48 (rv changes)

@ 00:38: Quatloo (rv changes)

@ 14:18: Gretnagod (rv changes)

@ 20:55: Quatloo (rv changes)

@ 23:34: RMHED (rv changes)

@ 23:39: Quatloo (rv changes)

and today:

@ 13:45: RMHED (rv to Quatloo's earlier version)

outside parties have elected to intervene:

Please stop the edit war

Would all users please stop the edit war by reverting each others changes re: the death list website. Please discuss the issues here and let's come to a consensus about the best way to incorporate this information in the article. Thank you. TMS63112 19:42, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

And thus The Wiki Wars progressed to a new level of play. The battle field is muddy, my friends, very muddy indeed:

I am not sure that site belongs at all in the article except in the external links area. It is not a notable web forum -- it exists only on the web and its Alexa rankings are very low. Low Alexa rankings can be excused if the entity had a life outside of the web, but this isn't the case here -- such a non-notable site does not deserve half this article. I have even conceded to leave a longer-than-deserving paragraph about it (which includes contributions from more than one person). The information that keeps getting replaced without justification resembles a vanity page more than anything else, is poorly written, and overemphasizes the "importance" of this non-notable entity. Quatloo 21:04, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Hero of yesteryear replies:

The Death List itself is monitored by the UK media. That can be proved by its recent mention in The Sun, which has the highest circulation of any English-language newspaper in the world. And, as a working British journalist myself, I can happily state that the Death List is more known than any other Dead Pool, or perhaps the who dead pool format. Given that the whole of Wikipedia is, in my opinion, starting to resemble a diary of an angst-ridden teen, I cannot believe [[ User:Quatloo|Quataloo]] is even arguing against the Death List being included more fully. If you want to take a look at the sort of toot that shouldn't be on here, I suggest you visit Can't sleep, clown will eat me. Now that is pointless! Gretnagod 01:55, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Antihero tries his/her best to appear objective by citing quanitifiability:

I have read that coverage, and I disagree. Merely being covered once or twice does not make something notable, that falls into human interest genre of coverage and there are thousands of individuals and events in such stories every day which nobody would consider notable other than fleetingly. The proof is in the pudding, in this case, the web traffic, which is quite quantifiable and in this case truly negligible. The fact is, very few people visit that site. Quatloo 02:32, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

And the voice of reason rings out from on high:

OK, having read the comments and looked at the article history, let me try to summarize everyone's positions, in the hope of reaching a compromise everyone can live with. In Eternum, RMHED, and Gretnagod were proponents of keeping the separate Death List entry. After the AfD debate resulted in a merge, they have edited the article to include a separate section tilted "Dead pool variant" talking about the deathlist.net site. Their position seems to be that the site is sufficinetly notable and different from a "traditional" dead pool that it needs a separate section. They also note press coverage that the site has received as indicative of its notability. User Quatloo argues that the site is not particularly notable due to its low web traffic, and that a couple of press mentions do not warrant giving the site a separate section in the article. S/he does not object to an external link to the site, but would prefer the site not be mentioned in the body of the text. S/he also objects to some of the phrasing the other users have proposed. As a compromise position, s/he has written a brief description of the deathlist site for inclusion in the body of the text, without giving it a section. Have I fairly summarized everyone's positions? TMS63112 16:19, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

When will it end, folks? How many roads must a man walk down?

Don't know about y'all, but I'm gearing up for an exciting conclusion!

How about a button marked E-mail this to a friend.

Along side quote/reply this would greatly enhance the web traffic.

And in accordance with Wiki can we start begging as well?

No wonder Ive got a bad back -you felt the weight of the Big Issue?.

OK just found it under options!

Make it more visible.

I wonder if managers of big companies have Deadpools about whether smaller businesses will last throughout the year?

Instead of bonus points for a young pick, bonus points could be for an older, more established firm.

Before anyone points out that this is off topic, I was going off of someone's suggestion to put Wikipedia on DL, so it's only as irrelevant as that... B)

Putting companies on the lists is, of course, against the Unwritten Rules. We do have a precedent of a horse on the list, but horses are not companies. Besides, I understand that non-human animals have been ineligible since.

Hein

Bugger lasted almost another two years after the end of 1992 too.

Anyhow, I didn't mean it as a proposal for DL, just for something else, or really just general curiosity.
