Octi, not true!

I left Dennis Booth out of the discussion because he was always likely to follow Simmo to Deepdale, which he's now done. I think he was covering himself with talk about wanting the job. There is a chance of something internal - youth team coach Billy Barr and captain Kev Gray - being rumoured to be a possible caretaker combination if we don't sort something in the next fortnight.

More likely ex-West Brom boss Frank Burrows could be in this week. 62 year old, been around, seen it all sort of guy.

Get the lowdown on the latest subject of strong rumours here.

Aye Bald Rick, the same thing has occured to us over the last few weeks. The dear departed Simmo was a local lad so the weather and locals didn't scare him. I think the real worry for the newie is that Carlisle have stalled the two times they reached this level in the last decade. Also the likely loss of Michael Bridges and maybe one or two others before the start of the season will challenge a new boss.

We'll get someone, mind.

What are you busy with Bald Rick, looking for a new job or owt?

I have been known on occasion to watch a game of 'footie' as I believe it's called. I don't like the idea of chewing gum and spitting a lot, which it seems are prerequisites for anyone involved with the game. I think I might just lose my patience with watching grown men rolling around on the floor pretending to be injured and go and give them a real injury to make them roll around instead, preferably using a large stick with a nail through the end. Bloody bunch of softies. Or maybe it's not like that in the 'lower leagues', or in the dim and distant north.

In short, I'm probably as well qualified for the job as anyone who hasn't already turned it down. However I don't think my wife and young daughter could cope with the constant media intrusion, and the stress wouldn't be good for me, so it is with reluctance that I will also have to turn the offer down, if indeed it comes my way.

Sorry.

Press conference begin to fill up as we speak, the waiting - probably - will be over soon. More likely they'll announce a long term post than simply get the press in for Billy Barr and Kev Gray as caretakers.

I know there are - oooh - at least two of you out there with a passing interest. So, I'm away for me lunch, and I'll keep yers posted when I get back.

I'm back and editing my post. With the rest of the loyal support I'm gobsmacked to discover Neil McDonald is our new manager. Briefly a player with us before Newcastle poached him and were forced to compensate us in large amount. Playing wise he was great, even played in Europe with Bolton. Management wise respected as a coach at Bolton and more recently assistant to Ian Dowie at Crystal Palace. Furious digging online over the last ten minutes shows wall to wall celebrations at his departure on the Palace message board.

It'll be - like - an inertesting start to the season.

Proves one thing mind, you can keep secrets in football. His name didn't appear once on our message board as we considered the possible candidates.

FF,

what happened during the punch-up at the end of the game?

I'm stuck at work so missed the entire match.

I'm also going to miss Italy V Ukraine

Not to mention penalty shots :blink:

It makes me wonder, along with the fact he still seems to think that Mexico's first goal vs Iran, a tap in, was better than a sweeping team move (the third goal) if FF is actually watching the World Cup, or just copy & pasting from some North American site. ;)

as for the fight - Phantom - basically, Borowski gestured at the Argentines to shut up after he put in the 4th penalty. Cufre, of Argentina was furious, along with the rest of them, and surrounded the players, karate kicking Mertesacker. Bierhoff, the assistant manager then reliatated & it all went from there. Cufre was sent off, becoming the first player in World Cup history to be sent off whilst not actually playing!!!!! :)

Oooh, looks like I missed all the action. I watched GER v ARG just till the first goal, then I had to go. My SO doesn't like football much and she wanted to go to the theatre. She's out of town today, so I can go to the pub and watch ENG v POR. That should have been ENG v NED, of course, but there you go. Come on England!

BTW, the theatre was very entertaining, so I don't feel really bad.

regards,

Hein

That is a very strong accusation OoO! As a matter of fact I did watch all of the matches. It is one thing to say that you dont agree with me or do not like the way I give my comments. That is fair game. But on the other hand, to publicly accuse me of faking my opinion on the matches is certainly uncalled for and definitely not appreciated. I do not call you a fake if I disagree with you and I would appreciate the same courtesy.

WHOOSH! That's a light-hearted barb that's gone over someone's head.

Jeez, Guess someone missed the winky smiley at the end, eh?

Oh and well done Portugal. Rooney truly is an idiot.

Ronaldo played Rooney perfectly, Rooney like the prat he is took the bait.

England were sh*t from the start of the tournament until the end, they showed nothing but mediocrity.

Thought the ten men did a good job for an hour Tempus, reckoned we could've gone into the semis with pride before Brazil gave us the footballing lesson that showed our true level.

Either way, there have been few truly great team performances in these finals. We ain't great, but neither are many others. I think Brazil have held back so far and will go on to win, again.

Aye, I thought that too, but it seems we were mistaken.

A very disappointing show by Brazil this evening. Not a bad game though, in places.

Quarter final, tops.

I got that bit right. Commiserations for all England supporters. It's a shite being English at the mo. I feel your pain.

France's victory over Brazil was both an unexpected and a pleasant surprise. Now that the Frogs have gone to the semis I hope they win the tournament.

Allez les Bleus!

My heart goes out to England tonight.

Only because the final blow was struck by that smug C**t Ronaldo. I hope Portugal lose because it's quite fun watching him cry.

He truely is a smug f****r.

Thanks, Wins. At BHB Towers we all stood in front of the telly with arms around shoulders and when that smirking, greasy twat stepped up we were all praying he'd sky it. But, alas, the gifted C**t smacked it home.

My way of dealing with it was to go out to the garden shed and arm myself with a saw, nails and a hammer and fix the fence. Which was not the brightest idea after spending the day on alcohol (I started at 11 in Tescos where they were giving out free samples of Quinns- a lady's drink, the fat woman told me, but I replied that I was in touch with my feminine side so hand those freebies over.). It has taken me about a quarter of an hour to type this, due to my lack of unbruised, uncut fingers.

I hope that granny prozzie bothering ugly gap toothed C**t never pulls on an England shirt again. What a prick. But, as gutted as I am, the sight of Beckham blubbing on the bench like a man whose had his porn surfing history presented to the board was a joy to behold. I hope we've seen the last of him in an' all, along with that Swedish tosser.

Oh well, at least I can look forward to Aston Villa winning the Premiership and Champion's League next season...

Nurse, more drugs please!

Either way BHB, I salute your grammar and syntax in the intoxicated and devastated state. Mr Brimley's entertaining posts show we can't all manage such motor skills under the influence.

Incidentally, now we're down to four European teams - something none of the serious pundits predicted at this stage - who do the DL footy experts think will win it? Of the four teams left France have put together the best quality football, IMHO, but they've been wildly inconsistent. On the basis that my last prediction of Brazil winning was based on thinking an analysis, (sort of thing), I'll go with my hunch this time and say - against all odds - Portugal will win and give Big Phil a first of winning successive world cups with different teams.

OK, here we go.... I'll stick my neck out and predict Portugal. Look at my past predictions and see how accurate they were  .

Just glancing out the window at the early morning traffic, I cannot see a single English flag fluttering from various chavs cars. Does this mean we are out? Is it all over? Can we get back to normal life now?

Incidentally, I think we should support Portugal now as they are the only country that we have never been at war with. 700 years of entent cordial.

intentionally or through sheer obliviousness, that's the funniest thing i've seen for ages, considering what happened saturday. top man, josco.

who's going to win? given the only thing wrong in my england prediction was who they'd lose to ('probably the germans'), i'll have a bash. portugal could reach the final with half a team out. france are relying on the splendid ribery to do the midfield's running, and he can't keep it up forever. germany are... well, the germans. and italy looked ok on friday, but aren't the best italian team i've ever seen. looks likely to be a germany/france final, and i think the germans may have the legs to win if it goes to extra time. however, zidane and the other french oldies (ha! all at least 8 years younger than me, so that's a weird one to type) may just have the determination to pull it out of the bag (yes! got the cliche in!)

so, france...

if that's right come next sunday night, i'm cancelling my orient season and spending every saturday in the bookies come next season!

Then again it would be funny if those of us who've had a bad predicting year got a result of sorts, like maybe failing to predict a death in our deadpools and then picking a world cup winner on for the jet carrying that team to plunge into the sea.

Oh and well done Portugal.

Indeed. A great advert for football. I'm sure, like me, you'll be cheering them on to a well deserved first world cup. The way they swept aside the mediocore Dutch and English sides with their own version of 'total football', really was something else. :banghead:

Nah. Before the tournament, I put shitloads of money on the Italians reaching the final. So, FORZA ITALIA!! <_<

You are right as usual. Like Portugal, a win for Italy really would be a victory for football and sport in general. Beacons of light in a sport rife with cheats.
