The legendary baseball player Earl Morrall has died http://www.naplesnew...l-morrall-dies/

He is an American Football/NFL player as clearly indicated by the article you linked.

I didn't realize quarterback was a position in baseball

Don Zimmer dead at 83

He spent more then 60 years in MLB as either a player or manager for 18 different teams

Mostly though he will be remembered for this moment when he worked for the Yankees tumblr_mc0b3eHIxw1rp7k5oo6_250.gif

It's like Arnold Palmer trying to attack Tiger Woods.

Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn is suffering from parotid cancer for the third time, possibly because he likes chewing baccy. I think that's what the Beastie Boy recently overcame, but here's the lowdown on cancer of the salivary glands for those that are interested.

I'm sure he is going to be an obit free zone. But I noted his name and thought he will get the right help. However I read the notes and cut and paste the best bit...

Prognosis

The major determinants of survival are histology and clinical stage. Poor prognostic factors include high grade, neural involvement, locally advanced disease, advanced age, associated pain, regional lymph node metastases, distant metastasis, and accumulation of p53 or c-erbB2 oncoproteins.

Although statements regarding survival are difficult to make because of the large variety of histologic types, 20% of all patients will develop distant metastases. The presence of distant metastases heralds a poor prognosis, with a median survival of 4.3-7.3 months.

Overall 5-year survival for all stages and histologic types is approximately 62%. The overall 5-year survival for recurrent disease is approximately 37%. Because of the risk of recurrence, all patients who have had a histologically proven malignant salivary gland tumor should have lifelong follow-up.

Now to me that looks a tad grim. Could do with a better fame check.... Maybe one for 2011?

One for 2014. Four years, similar to Adam Yauch.

Now in the bottom of 17th innings at the Blue Jays...

Watching this one on TV.

But sure someone will carried out dead before the end of the game.

Already seen two games including a Hutchison almost complete game all time record for the Jays. 26 and 2/3 hit out.

US members have a great watchable game that us in the UK know almost nothing about...

St Louis Cardinals rookie OF Oscar Taveras has avoided the inevitable future kidnapping by dying in a car crash.

Highly regarded prospect by all accounts, he had shown well in the recent NLCS vs San Francisco.

Ernie has shagged his last fly ball.

"Ernie Banks, the legendary Chicago baseball player known as “Mr. Cub,” died Friday night, a family attorney said. He was 83. The announcement came Friday evening from Chicago lawyer Mark Bogen, who said he was authorized by Banks’ widow to confirm the news to the media. A news conference was planned for Sunday at noon in Chicago, he said. Banks was an infielder who spent his entire career with the Chicago Cubs, from 1953 to 1971. The All-Star player was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977."

He played Shortstop. He didn't 'shag fly balls'.

Oldest living former Chicago Cub, Lennie Merullo, 98. https://twitter.com/Cubs/status/604799194541391873

Along with the death of John Siegal as the oldest living former Chicago Bear posted over at American Football, past couple of days not good for sport in that city.

Anyone know who is the oldest living former Chicago Bull, perchance?

Can't find oldest Bull for some reason. However the oldest White Sox--Eddie Carnett--is 2nd oldest in all of baseball at 98.

I'm guessing the great Bobby Hull may well be oldest Blackhawk though only 74. hockey players getting past 80 not terribly common.
