Guest Guest Posted August 1, 2007 Happy birthday to Gore Vidal, who seems to be in pretty good shape but is 81 today nonetheless. He made a mark in my life when I read the quote "The more money an American accumulates, the less interesting he becomes." This makes me the most interesting person on the planet. then again there are a whole bunch of Africans out there that are far more interesting than you am going to watch The Best Man soon, looks like a mighty fun movie at least intense .. Wait, so being a very poor African instantly makes that person an American?
Death Impends 8,043 Posted October 3, 2007 He's 82 today.

maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted October 4, 2007 Have you read Gore Vidal at his worst? I'm nowhere near as hard to fathom as that.
TAFKAG 70 Posted May 19, 2008 His mind seemed sharp on last night's South Bank Show - perfectly capable of finding many ways to call Bush an idiot and a criminal. Not so sure about the body, but he probably has at least a couple of years left. Melvyn's barnet was in luxuriant form too, quite amazing for a 68-year-old. maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted May 19, 2008 Just because Mr Bragg is 68 there is no guarantee that ALL his hair has been with him that long, or that it's all his own.

TAFKAG 70 Posted May 22, 2008 Gore was in waspish form on Channel 4 News this evening. He's become the dotty old uncle who sits in the corner occasionally shouting "Knickers!" 'McCain is Mr Magoo...'
millwall32 114 Posted May 22, 2008 He is also in waspish form in the current edition of the Spectator. http://www.spectator.co.uk/
Dr Strangelove 14 Posted June 2, 2008 even wheelchair bound and frail GV should not be on the list for a few years yet. When he appeared on the BBC's Hardtalk he had both a wheelchair ...and a walking stick. Maybe he uses it to hit people with.
sidburyman 15 Posted August 2, 2009 Gore Vidal - I think old Gore; novelist, essayist, political comentator and polemicist, might just be ripe for the final curtain. Its been over a year since he was on our shores looing very frail. Must be a candidate for 2010 - he's a sure-fire hit

I remember reading his comments after being asked about how he felt on the death of his "rival" William F. Buckley last year... the way in which Vidal summed it up: "RIP WFB—in hell." Paul Bearer 6,130 Posted January 5, 2011 Saw him at the Beverley Hills Hotel (I know, name dropper) on Monday lunchtime. I think he was attempting to accompany singalong with the piano player albeit not very well. Still had his wheelchair, but still a sparkle in those eyes. If not this year, then I reckon next is a definite.

angryGreatness 96 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) Another ex death lister gone. That could have been 3 hits in the last 4 days! A miss for the DeathList is a hit for me. Perhaps a Gore Vidal quote is appropriate here: "It is not enough to succeed - others should fail." RIP. Edited August 1, 2012 by angryGreatness
