News in today "Dr. Howard Riina, his neurosurgeon, told Reuters in a telephone interview that the music industry legend "sustained a severe brain injury after a fall. He's in a deep coma and in critical condition. His chance of a meaningful recovery is small."" Back on the list he goes...

I think I've killed off Anton Balasingham by putting him on my list last week Why won't it work on the ones I've put on my list for this year?

weatherman90 7 Posted December 15, 2006 (edited) I reported this on the suggestions for DL 07 thread seeing that someone suggested him. I doubt we would have picked him even if he had survived though. Ahmet Ertegun dead. UPDATE: I guess the guy has his own thread. [He has. Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted December 15, 2006 This is becoming very annoying, what's wrong with these people why in heavens name can't they show some staying power. Scratch yet another name from the list, another replacement is needed, but who, for the love of God who? Come the New Year I bet all these "At Deaths Door" bastards will linger for months. Must be something about Turks & comas. Ecevit did the same. Most, most annoying.

Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted December 15, 2006 it's not ABOUT that - Ronnie!! But it is. Why should we care if some guy called Ahmet Ertegun dies. Sure, I've heard of Atlantic Records and I would have assumed it had a founder, but does his death have any impact whatsoever, a la Steve Irwin or Princess Di? No way. themaninblack 2,112 Posted December 15, 2006 Its a familar(ish) name. Depends on whether one knows the ins and outs of the music industry... Have you heard of Geoff Travis for example?
football_fan 42 Posted December 15, 2006 OK, hands up who had actually heard of Ahmet Ertegun before Nov. 6. I have. Curtis Armstrong did an excellent job playing his character in the Ray Charles movie. He was the record producer who signed Ray when he was down and out. DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted December 15, 2006 OK, hands up who had actually heard of Ahmet Ertegun before Nov. 6. I had heard of him, CR. I happen to own an Atlantic Records 40th anniversary compilation CD, the comprehensive sleevenotes were written by Ahemet Ertegun. He was certainly a big fish within the music industry. Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted December 15, 2006 A definite yes from me. Producer of Ray Charles, Aretha, the Head Honcho of one of the greatest soul labels ever, The Rolling Stones man in the U.S., Pioneer Jazz entrepreneur. I'm actually a bit upset by his passing, he did more for music than many more 'famous' people, and as such was certainly worthy of a Deathlist '07 listing had GR not intervened. OK, hands up who had actually heard of Ahmet Ertegun before Nov. 6.
