Magere Hein 1,400 Posted February 9, 2006 I wouldn't if I were you, the consensus here is that Ronnie is a serious lingerer or malingerer. Either way I wouldn't pick him. True, but he's still #3 on the list. And #2 on my DDP team, but that's because of alphabetical sorting. I wouldn't want to miss him. regards, Hein

It would be a silly miss, but no guarantees.

Phantom 2,533 Posted February 15, 2006 I've kept him on my list again for this year too, I've already missed a few people over the past 4 years by dropping them from my list and then they go and die Even though it's standard procedure to release a prisoner if they have 3 months or less to live, I think Ronnie will go suddenly I still see no reason to keep him imprisoned as he's hardly likely to plan another heist in his current condition also if he was released he'll probably die very soon after as he'd have got his wish to die at home. Probably the main reason why he's lingering on as he doesn't want his last days to be behind bars

Out of 239 teams, 123, including my team, picked him and 23 of them selected him as their joker.

MyBrainHurts2 4 Posted March 21, 2006 So the article mentions that he spends most of his day hooked up to an IV and that ol' Biggsie had coughing fits that kept his visit extra brief, but to be honest, in order for me to believe all that crap, I need to see video footage to determine how messed up the man really is. Corpse tease. If Ronnie does get out, I doubt we'll see the mad skills of the ol' global hide and seek champion.

Corpse tease. If Ronnie does get out, I doubt we'll see the mad skills of the ol' global hide and seek champion. Allegedly, Mike Biggs gave permission for the photos to be published, however one paragraph that strikes me as being a bit odd is this one "Mike did not take the pictures or know how we got them. But he hopes they will persuade the authorities to show mercy."
MyBrainHurts2 4 Posted March 21, 2006 I found that a little odd also, but as long as it helps Mikey get his way, he likely doesn't care. I like the mention that the pictures of Biggsie are in the public's interest. Yeah, we're interested alright, and would like another DL hit.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted March 21, 2006 Ailing Biggs' family seek his release or with a bit more information & a picture: Biggs' son bleating on again Good find OoO! It's reassuring to see that one of my DDP Candidates might be, you know, actually dying. I can't tell much from the picture as to his health, but I'd say for 2000 pounds a week, just let the bugger go home and die if he wants. He can't walk or talk, so everyone wins. Although I have no idea what 2000 pounds is in dollars. Is it a lot?
MyBrainHurts2 4 Posted March 21, 2006 US$3000-US$3500 - somewhere in there.

He might be aware of his surroundings but he's unlikely to reoffend. OK so he's behind bars for his part in a heist over 40 years ago, but it's daylight robbery that we're using tax payers money to keep him in prison and still keep him alive. So even since he's been recaptured, he's still stealing from your average person on the street

Biggs was never the ringleader and his crime looks fairly tame compared with some of the stuff these days that attracts far lighter sentences. But I suspect the care he is getting in prison is no better or worse or costlier than that he would receive in a state-funded nursing home where he would be vulnerable to approaches from Channel Four producers to star in (irony of irony) I'm a Celebrity Get me Out of Here or Big Brother. Televised incarceration has become cool in modern society. Godot CFY (phones4U)
Brinsworth House Baiter 12 Posted March 22, 2006 Stick the train botherer in Brinsworth House for the rest of his days, that's what I say! A couple of months of being wheeled in for Drake & Dicky's matinee revues will soon have him wishing he'd stayed put in Rio. Harsh but fair in my opinion. And it'd save on taxpayer's money, so everyone's a winner...except for Ronnie. Barbara Windsor (*) can finance his stay, seeing as how much she relishes the company of gangsters & their ilk. There. Sorted. (*) Note, this is the Eastenders actress & not a poorly veiled dig at our own resident Windsor, whose first name is actually Marjorie.

Godot 149 Posted March 22, 2006 Godot's history with the Great Train robbers: I once went past the very spot that the great train robbery took place not far from Tring. I was driving a narrow boat, not the best getaway vehicle so quickly eliminated from police inquiries (their first mistake). There is nothing whatever of interest there (or in this post, sadly). I was in Rio once when Ronnie Biggs was there and people used to go chat to him in a bar (but I didn't so no interest there either). I used to see gang member Buster Edwards every day at Waterloo Station until he hung himself. I never said hello or bought any flowers from his stall. I used to see Mad Frankie Fraser (born 1923) in Waterloo Road, also, but haven't seen him for a while (probabaly because I haven't been there for a while). Fraser, it is said, used to pull teeth with pliers out of people of whom he wasn't fond. Fraser was suspected of the the GT robbery but the police left him alone, thanks to a big bribe from the Richardsons (it is said). In that part of London you still see funeral cortages with flowers against the coffin saying "mam" (never mum). Godot CFY
