Yeah, I think Namibia was one of the last countries to become independent. So, in terms of being the last "father of the nation", he might be up there.

Eritrea became independent one year after Namibia. Its first and only president is Isaias Afwerki, 78 years old.

Kosovo, was, if I’m correct, the last country to became independent, but Ibrahim Rugova died in 2006.

Not one of the last countries to become independent, but:

Manuel Pinto da Costa, founding President of São Tomé and Príncipe (island country roughly the size of a fly's shit) is still alive, but still young for an African leader at 86.

Abdulai Conteh (wikidead just days before his 79th birthday.

The last Vice President of Sierra Leone to serve under President Joseph Saidu Momoh (wiki, 1937–2003). They were ousted in a coup in 1992.

Conteh lived in exile in Belize for years, becoming a Chief Justice there, before returning to Sierra Leone.

Would be curious to know if his predecessor Abu Bakar Kamara (wiki, born 1929) is actually still alive.

Umaru Yar'Adua's successor is vice-president Goodluck Jonathan. He has not only a quite remarkable name, his clothing style could not be less presidential. He looks as something between a rapper and a blues star.

Umaru Yar'Adua's mother dead at 102.

Mauritania's former dictator Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidalla taken abroad for medical treatment this month. He has been circling the drain for a while now and this apparently came days after he was discharged from a local hospital.

Mauritanian dictator Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidalla discharged. Another waste of oxygen that seems to live forever.

Edit, 21st of Sept: Son asking prayers for Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidalla, with talk on Facebook implying he's very ill. Come on! :smiley_f:
