Among the best players of all time, he was nicknamed "Alexander the Great" (Alexander cel Mare) in his native country, Penciu was player-manager for Italian team Rovigo. He was the father of another French international rugby union player, Aurélien Rougerie. Rougerie played as a Prop or Hooker for AS Montferrand. He was also a coach.
