Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted October 14, 2007 I'd like to know how much DDP near misses one can actually have in a bloody year.I'm getting bored of this routine... For me, 3. Denard, Lady Bird Johnson and King Zahir Shah were all in the top 20 at some point in December, when I dropped them for Hermon, Yitzhak Shamir & Billy Graham respectively.. all of whom are still alive. Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted October 14, 2007 How do you solve that problem? Werner von Trapp, a member of the family made famous by "The Sound of Music", has died at the age of 91. I chose the wrong von Trapp child, I put Maria on my list

Vinegar Tits 605 Posted October 16, 2007 The Eurovision fans amongst us may remember Toše Proeski, who represented FYROM in 2004 with a little ditty called 'Life'. Sadly the tite of that has proved to be somewhat ironic as he's he's died in a car crash.

DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted October 17, 2007 Ron Cunningham, who went by the stage name "The Great Omani", has died aged 92. He was: "An escapologist and end-of the-pier artiste specialising in feats such as eating light bulbs and removing a straitjacket while hanging upside down with his trousers on fire." According to his Telegraph obit, he didn't retire until he was 90. He announced his retirement several times before finally bowing out in 2005 with a bravura performance at the Bedford Tavern in Brighton. There, surrounded by a bevy of Brazilian beauties, he crushed broken bottles with his bare feet, set himself alight with lighter fuel, stabbed himself several times in the chest with a bendy knife, smashed a beer glass into his neck with a hammer and rounded things off by telling his infamous chicken joke. Godot 149 Posted October 18, 2007 Ron Cunningham, who went by the stage name "The Great Omani", has died aged 92. And the chicken joke? Telegraph sleuths have hunted it down: "A man goes into a butcher's shop and asks for a chicken. "After the butcher sells it to him he realises it's got one leg longer than the other so he says to the butcher, "Oy, this chicken's got one leg longer than the other." "So the butcher asks him: "What do you want to do, eat it or dance with it?""

Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted October 18, 2007 To add to Bishop & Kerr, another DDP pick, Dorothy Webb, mother of Sir Cliff Richard, has died. MPFC has been championing her cause but so far there's been no suitable obituary.
maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted October 18, 2007 Only championed her on the DDP, where a snippet in a tabloid will do. Roll on tomorrow, but not for Dorothy Webb, obviously. DDP rule: "Obituary" simply means an article which mentions the fact that the person has died. It doesn't have to be the conventional biographical write-up. Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted October 18, 2007 Suitable obit for Dorothy Webb here, which I think puts MPFC joint 6th in the DDP.

maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted October 21, 2007 Edgar Allen Poe, obviously his death isn't news. But the fact it may well have been a brain tumour is a convincing addition to the wild speculation on how it happened.
