Patrick Jenkin was Minister of Energy during the Three Day Week, but he was seconded to the Secretary of State, Lord Carrington. Though who attended Cabinet meetings seemed to change so often I find it easier to track who was in the government itself.

Having had a glance at the National Archives list for Heath's Cabinet in 1974, Jenkin is counted as Energy Minister.

Somewhere on this forum I made a list of living ministers/PPS's up to the Thatcher era years ago.

Awesome work by SOTD above. It strikes me that three of the infamous Labour to SDP Gang of Four are still around. It's positively good for your health on that evidence to have the kind of jobs that involve lots of giving opinions and very little worrying about real issues.

On that basis I wonder if the handful of Liberals who held coalition office and will almost certainly never do so again will live to be very old.

A glance suggests Christopher Brocklebank-Fowler (the only Tory to join the SDP, jumping parties mid-speech in the Commons) is still with us, aged 82.

Jenkin wasnt in Heaths cabinet. At least I never found any proof he was.

He was chief secretary to the treasury from 72 to 74 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heath_ministry. In any case it's definitely just Carrington left from Heaths cabinet now ! In fact he's the only survivor from any cabinet prior to 1974 .

There's a question mark about Michael JOpling though. Some sources say he was in Thatchers first cabinet as chief whip but some don't.

Jopling was not in the Cabinet. He may have ATTENDED Cabinet meetings by invite or request of the PM, but he wasn't a Cabinet minister. Big difference.

This is narrowing the suspects for the recent annual Thatcher crony January death. 2014 - MacAlpine, 2015 - Leon, 2016 - Cecil Parkinson, 2017 - ?

Norman Tebbit can't go on much longer surely. He's been a living skeleton for years !

Someone could start a new thread for Thatcher's last cabinet though. That's 3 of them gone in the last year Parkinson, Mayhew and Waddington.

There has been a lot of interest in Thatcher's first cabinet but with the recent death of Lord Archer (Peter, Unfortunately) this brings down to single figures those who were two swords lengths away in Michael Foot's Shadow cabinet.

Denis Healey (b.1917)

Roy Hattersley (b.1932)

Gerald Kaufmann (b.1930)

Roy Mason (b.1924)

Neil Kinnock (b.1942)

Bruce Millan (b.1927)

William Rodgers (b.1928)

Tony Benn (b. 1925)

John Morris (b 1931)

All will be obit worthy!

Just 4 left with Gerald Kaufman's death !
