For Doctor Who he played Rossini in The Masque of Mandragora.

Probably best known for the recurring role of Bill Pritchard in the Yes, Minister franchise.

Also the dad in Taste, one of the most memorable Tales of the Unexpected. (The one where Ron Moody's wine expert bets the daughters hand in marriage over his ability to name where a rare dinner wine comes from.) And he's got a small but recognisable role in The Living Daylights. And yes, Willz, he's in the Clapham Cook Poirot too. Always been on the fringes of my Oldies team, but I had a feeling he'd be ignored by the press when he died which has (shamefully imo) come to pass.

The Dr Who actors list, updated. Some previously missing people added, some really obscure extras removed, I swear every few years I remove all the dead people and wind up with a list 50 names bigger than the last time. Have gone to everyone who will be 60 in 2025, given the spate of actors dying in their 60s of late. As usual its not everyone, as some folks ages (hello Young Silurian) are MIA. With most of the "they'll obit anyway" I've tried to give educated guesses (hence circa).

All of these people were checked this week and are seemingly alive, though some of the more obscure (hello Ronald Rich) might turn out to be dead months after the fact. Think I caught all the doublers too, though the best way to spot them is to press post, then wait 5 minutes for someone on the DL to immediately spot any errors!

ALSO as this is very large, for the benefit of folk on mobile phones, please do not quote the entire list just to make one comment. @ing me or quoting the relevant bit only will suffice.

27.   1950 – David Troughton, Cheryl Hall, Nick Hobbs, Nigel Plaskitt,, Michael Cashman, Liza Goddard, Nitza Saul, Eric Deacon, David Chandler, Christopher Ryan, Rachel Bell, Annette Badland, Jacqueline King (circa), Harriet Walter, Judith Street, Reggie Tsiboe, Lindsay Duncan, Ian McNeice, Elizabeth Parker, Philip McGough, Robert Pugh, Paul Lavers, Jenny McCracken, Jane How, Renu Setna, Jane How

Nick Hobbs, stuntman and actor, reportedly dead:

For this thread, various roles in Doctor Who, the best of which was as Aggedor in both Peladon stories, with other roles as UNIT soldier, an Auton in Terror of the Autons and a Wirrn Operator in The Ark In Space. Also credited in the New Who as Mr Nainby in Amy's Choice.

Various other roles in the Carry On, Bond and Billy Elliot movies and innumerable stunt roles in other film and TV stories.

A radio tribute to some of the departed actors & behind-the-scenes characters who have shuffled off this year, from (who else) Toby Hadoke.

Cy Town gets a mention, but audio doesn't count for DDP purposes.

In terms of actors, as far as I can tell, it's just the following three.

Henley Thomas died in 2020 (The Keys of Marinus)

Andrew Lodge died in 2017 (The Savages)

Christopher Denham died in 2022 (The Savages)

There's also the usual abundance of extras and cameramen and the like.

Not until Toby confirmed it a few days ago, hence my need for a quick sub on the DDP.

Peter Thompson I drew a dead end with as common name, obscure actor, etc. He was believed to be around to lack of evidence to the contrary, but its recently come to light that he died in 1999. The source is one of the more trustworthy researchers on Gallifrey Base, whom posts under a pseudonym but is known by Toby and others in real life and been vouched for. I don't have access to their research though, just that it's accurate.

I stand by my comments from 2021 - Doctor Who Cast and Crew are useful, but they do often assume folk are alive due to no obvious evidence online of death. It turns out Hugh Lund was actually alive when I last updated that list (briefly), but my scepticism on Thompson proved accurate!

Anyhow, I suspect vast numbers of uncredited names died long off the radar. It's why I tend to ignore them unless they are notable in their own right like Harry Fielder, Derek Martin and so on. Not to be harsh but for example, monster actor Dave Carter is apparently still alive but has been MIA from the public so long you could spend weeks looking for him and be none the wiser.

Even Hadoke hears that Dave Carter has died, but I'm afraid there's nothing certain as yet.

Folk on Facebook (including from David Bickerstaff) claiming that the great Christopher Benjamin has died.

Confirmed by Fantom Events. A sad loss, a very fine British character actor.

The first film I saw from him was the dark animation The Plague Dogs (1981). He was the voice of Rowf (the black dog). RIP

I saw him play Julius Caeser at the RSC in a production directed by Sir Peter Hall. We had tickets for the opening night but they were not ready so they gave us better tickets for the following night even then the production was still a mess. There was a giant cast of Ceaser's head which dripped blood after the murder but the dripping was so loud it drowned out the actors.

Another faller from the 1995 Pride and Prejudice

Sad news. He cropped up in most of the ITC programmes. He was also in 9 episodes of Crown Court.
