Jean Marsh isn't a Dame either, allegedly at her own refusal. We could add Claire Bloom and Joan Plowright next year as a running theme of people Laurence Olivier shagged.

There's a point. How many acting Dames are there? 15? 20?

Can't be that many.

Wikipedia lists 60 'acting Dames', 25 of whom are still alive (plus Angelina Jolie) by my reckoning. This includes Floella Benjamin and Kiri te Kanawa, who you wouldn't necessarily call actors/actresses.

Very sad that Charlotte Rampling, Brenda Blethyn and Julie Christie are not dames

Leslie Manville could be a future name, with Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter I guess

I'm surprised Colman isn't. She's in bloody everything.

I can't stand her, there's something about her face that makes me want to punch it.    I really, really hated her as The Queen.

Of course we don't always know when an honour has been offered and declined.

Love Colman, her witiness and honesty are likable imo. Boham Carter and her should be made dame right ?

I almost forgot about Kate Harcourt, she is the grandmother of Thomasin McKenzie who played Elsa in JoJo Rabbit and in Eileen alongside Anne Hathaway

My opinion on these –

Charlotte Rampling and Brenda Blethyn have existing honours, but have held them for years. Meaning that they could be in line to be a Dame, and would likely accept.

The fact that Julie Christie has NO honours at all suggests to me she has refused them.

Leslie Manville and Olivia Colman received honours within the last 5 years so they will probably have to wait at least another 5 before being promoted to a Damehood.

Helena Bonham Carter was made a CBE in 2013, so could be a very good candidate to become a Dame in the New Years Honours list in a few months time.

Felicty Kendall, Julia McKenzie,  Patricia Hodge, Zoe Wanamaker, Lindsay Duncan, Celia Imrie, Juliet Stevenson and Elaine Paige maybe actresses who could get one in time, Maybe an honorary one to Fiona Shaw,

Petula Clark and Prunella Scales have CBE’s but might be too old to be promoted now.

Gemma Jones also has no honours so might be another one who has turned them down.

Hmmmm.... I think I read somewhere that Rosemary Harris turned down an honour. Either way, she's barely mentioned in the UK as she hasn't lived here for years. She moved to the States in the 1960s, and seldom appears in anything we make here. Dame Angela Lansbury moved to the States young also but frequently came back and appeared in British TV, film and in West End productions.

Phyllida Law isn't very active anymore – hardly any credits in the last decade. She got an OBE in 2013. At a push she'll get a CBE.

Celia Imrie, Elaine Page, Felicity Kendall all feel like future Dames.

Prunella Scales is one below and my gut feeling is if she gets one it'll be a deathbed one.

Olivia de Havilland got her Damehood when she was almost 101.

Wendy Craig, Fionnula Flanagan, Brenda Fricker, Miriam Margolyes, Tilda Switon, Miranda Richardson, Catherine Zeta-Jones (I'm kidding, at least she has a CBE)

Did Glenda Jackson refused her damehood?

I think we’ve established by now that Brenda Fricker doesn’t exist. It’s just Piers Morgan in a wig. Even Piers’ son tweeted something along those lines, so must be true.

I doubt Glenda Jackson turned down a damehood. She had a CBE. She stepped out of acting for years to become a politician. If she hadn’t done that I think she would have become a Dame.

She once said (After she and accepted her CBE) she would probably turn down any damehood offer,
