Red Flag 84 Posted February 26, 2013 The Ling story has taken a rather weird turn - rumours abound that his "debilitating illness" is actually alcoholism. Would explain things like the involvement of the LMA and the "specialist treatment" (and no doubt the poor performances of the players leading up to his absence). But some of the other things don't add up. No one seems to know - that's the only rumour that seems to be spreading; nothing has leaked out from the club, and dare anyone try and discuss it on a fans' forum as you'll get criticised for speculating. The silence is deafening

Magere Hein 1,400 Posted March 4, 2013 He'll probably end up in the List of the Lost, but hey, it's the second hit for my DDP Theme Team: Dutch footballer and manager Theo Bos died yesterday from pancreatic cancer, aged 47. Obit in Dutch. Did he play or manage in England ? I recognise his name. Or did he have any caps for Holland ? No. He played his entire carreer for Vitesse Arnhem, 369 matches from 1983 to 1997. No caps. He managed Polonia Warsawa for two whole months in 2011 and FC Dordrecht for half a year, until illness forced him to retire early in 2012. There's another Dutch sportsman named Theo Bos, a talented cyclist, with several world sprint championships under his belt, now a road cyclist. regards, Hein

Octopus of Odstock 2,196 Posted March 22, 2013 Anibal Paz is one chap who won't be following the mass of World Cup games these next few days. Paz was part of the 1950 World Cup winning Uruguay squad, who played one game in the run up to the final game. He was also, I believe, until his death, the oldest surviving player who played in a game (Rene Llense, who will be 100 later this year, was part of the 1934 and 1938 French squad, but didn't play) - Llense was a keeper, so was Paz - http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2013%5C03%5C23%5Cstory_23-3-2013_pg2_10 - and Bert Williams (see next post), was also a keeper and I believe he is one of the oldest confirmed living World Cup participants.
