charon 4,943 Posted February 13, 2014 Listened to 5Lives ''Up all night'' the other day when it was the Dr Karl bit, and someone asked re turning off mobile phones at Petrol stations. He replied that he had did a study a while back and Worldwide over a 10 year period there had been approx 110 fires at Stations, and zero caused by mobile phones. It apparently started out as a Hoax email, which after a few years ended up in the inbox of one of the Petroleum execs in the late 90's, who acted on it sending out a warning thus giving it credence. A case of the buggers winning...........

maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted April 8, 2014 Good Day, Sorry for any inconvenience, but I'm in a terrible situation. I came down here to Ukraine for a program, last night on my way back to my hotel room I was robbed at gunpoint, my wallet and other valuables were stolen off me, leaving my passport and life safe. My luggage is still in custody of the hotel management pending when I make payment on outstanding bills I owe. I called my bank for a wire transfer but it has proven almost Impossible to operate my account from here as they made me understand international transactions take 7 working days to be effective which i can't wait. I need you to help me with a loan to pay my hotel bills and get my self home. I will reimburse you soon as I get back Home. I will appreciate whatever you can assist me with. Let me know if you can be of help. All hopes on you. Best Regards Peter. The above from a casual work acquaintance, last swapped meaningful emails with him about three years back. Toast 16,144 Posted May 14, 2014 I've just had a very satisfying conversation with one of those helpful chaps from Microsoft. I told him that I didn't need new Windows because we already have double glazing. Oh, but wait, we might be interested in a conservatory! Do they do conservatories? Would he send me a brochure? And actually I could do with a new front door. He kept mentioning computers for some reason. Sorry, I said, I thought you were asking about Windows. I kept asking about conservatory brochures. I had to speak louder because he appeared to be foreign. Sadly we were cut off, I guess he must have accidentally put the phone down.

My chap from Talk Talk ended the conversation (the 10th of the day) with F You F YOu F YOu F You. I'm, pretty sure that's not on the script from the 'technical department'. I do wish, like the revered Toast, I'd thought to ask for one of their brochures.

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted April 7, 2017 'Kinda' spam. And it's apparently from me. Got a new phone and a couple weeks later (and for a month now) I get all these callbacks/texts from people that say I called them. Which of course I didn't. All their phone numbers start with 212, as does mine. Bizarre, interesting, and totally annoying (I get like 10 calls a day). I'm hoping once the 2-1-2s run out it'll be over but I suspect it'll be some other set of numbers next. Anyone ever heard of this and what is the fucking point by whoever is spoofing my phone #? It accomplishes nothing as far as I can tell other than annoying Sir Creep. SC

Joey Russ 7,228 Posted September 8, 2017 Just receiving some photos via airdrop by someone I absolutely have no recollection of, especially since it has a long code as the name.
