Spade_Cooley 9,201 Posted June 5 Of some minor note is that, among others, Afa was trained by Kurt Von Steiger (not a shoot German, real name Arnold Pastrick) who as far as the internet is concerned is still alive at the age of 93. Never seen his name on an "oldest living wrestler" list though. His (kayfabe) brother Karl's 2022 death was reported on in 2023, so they're definitely on the radar.
Charles De Gaulle 448 Posted June 5 Honestly, let's face it. Wrestlers are disproportionately more likely to live shorter lives and I think part of that is they are sinful. Everyday for over 50 years boys and young men were exposed to muscular men wearing very little clothing. It's not surprising that this all lead to a rapid rise in cases of homosexuality /s. 1

Spade_Cooley 9,201 Posted June 21 I'll be honest, my long list for 2025 had only one name I thought might be a unique, and now he's dead. British indie wrestler James Castle died aged 35 earlier this week, having first mentioned he had terminal cancer on something like January 2nd.

Afa would have made more sense but no, he's still going and his healthier younger brother has gone after a short illness. That aside, Afa and Sika were super close all their life so it wouldn't surprise me if Afa doesn't linger now.

Afa's health issues are known because his children keep us updated, whereas Sika's cause of death wasn't even disclosed.

Impressive longevity for wrestlers, both have outlived one of their children and both over eight years above the life expectancy of the average Samoan. Which one of Afa's children died? According to Google, he has 4 daughters and 3 sons. All of his sons are known to have had health issues but are still alive.
