Wrestlers/actors

Recommended Posts

Of some minor note is that, among others, Afa was trained by Kurt Von Steiger (not a shoot German, real name Arnold Pastrick) who as far as the internet is concerned is still alive at the age of 93. Never seen his name on an "oldest living wrestler" list though. His (kayfabe) brother Karl's 2022 death was reported on in 2023, so they're definitely on the radar.

Honestly, let's face it. Wrestlers are disproportionately more likely to live shorter lives and I think part of that is they are sinful. Everyday for over 50 years boys and young men were exposed to muscular men wearing very little clothing. It's not surprising that this all lead to a rapid rise in cases of homosexuality /s.

I employed a fair bit to understand it was not his brother.

Afa would have made more sense but no, he's still going and his healthier younger brother has gone after a short illness.

That aside, Afa and Sika were super close all their life so it wouldn't surprise me if Afa doesn't linger now.

Afa's health issues are known because his children keep us updated, whereas Sika's cause of death wasn't even disclosed.

On Manu, I'm suprised both the Wild Samoans (Afa Anoa'i the senior who is Manu's father and Sika Anoa'i) are still alive. 80 and 78. Impressive longevity for wrestlers, both have outlived one of their children and both over eight years above the life expectancy of the average Samoan.

Which one of Afa's children died? According to Google, he has 4 daughters and 3 sons. All of his sons are known to have had health issues but are still alive.

arghton might have got confused because Gary Albright (the only dead man to win a wrestling match) was Afa's son-in-law.

Serious health issues for Kevin Sullivan and hearing he's lucky to still be alive.

I had no idea who he was until I looked up his Wikipedia article and saw literally probably two dozen names of wrestlers I recognized who he worked with, some of whom are donating if the names are correct.

WCW star, close colleague of Mick Foley, ran the booking during a bunch of WCW's big years, and was the guy Chris Benoit nicked Nancy from. Also commonly linked to accusations of druidism in the 80s and conspiracy theories about the Benoits in the 00s. He'll get all the obits.

My jaw dropped and then immediately closed while reading that sentence.

So to update that six-year-old list of regular Bret Hart tag partners:

Quote

Jim Neidhart Dead

Keith Hart Alive

Davey Boy Smith Dead

Bruce Hart Alive

Dynamite Kid Dead

Wayne "Honky Tonk Man" Ferris Alive

Hércules Ayala Dead

Mr Hito Dead

Scott Hall Dead

Luke Williams Alive

Butch Miller Dead

Leo Burke Dead

Lex Luger Alive

David Schultz Alive

Owen Hart Dead

The Undertaker Alive

Mr Perfect Dead

Dangerous Danny Davis Alive

Randy Savage Dead

Bill Eadie Alive

Shawn Michaels Alive

Bad News Brown Dead

Ten still alive. Wouldn't like to call the next faller... you'd fancy Bill Eadie from that list, but maybe ol' Mean Mark is thinking that death is preferable to a lifestyle of making shit podcasts and having to dance for Saudi oil money.

But... didn't he have ALS? He seems in much better condition than it was reported.

He got out of jail in 2018 because a judge's report said he had ALS and was in bad shape.

However, I stopped picking him in deadpools because if he did have ALS in his condition, he ought to be dead by now.
