themaninblack 2,112 Posted January 2, 2009 I thought Miriam Karlin was dead! I swear she died of cancer years ago. Not long after that comedy she did playing a ghost...
BCAlum2000 42 Posted January 2, 2009 Mine are in my signature. There seems to be a lot of similar names this year - could this be one of the least diverse years there's been? That's what I was thinking too... However, there were quite a few names I considered adding to the list as my joker/wildcard. They included George Steinbrenner, Steve Jobs, Little Richard, Ed McMahon, Jan-Michael Vincent, James Garner, and Peter Falk. However in the end, I chose Farrah Fawcett. From OoO's e-mail The website's archive for 2008 is there for posterity - if you click on the 2009 links, you will get blank pages - which is deliberate for the time being - the 2009 names/scores/etc will be up shortly - so stay patient & keep an eye on your celebs & the obits pages for the next few days! maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted January 2, 2009 Just an idea, like. Once we've finished our show and tell this thread could be redundant but what about if we kept it going a little longer with a competition? Death Race 2009. Really simple, every time one of our picks dies we score points equivalent to the number of full days left in the year. So - for example - if Susan Atkins dies today, everyone picking her gets 364 points. The winner is the first person to 2009 points, in the event of one death tipping more than one winner over the magic number the winner is the one who clears 2009 points by the biggest margin. Oh aye, and any death counts, so even if your picks don't score on the DDP, they score here. I think we'll have a winner in six to eight weeks. Whaddya reckon? I've already had some positive interest and the entries have started to trickle in, well Lardy has posted hers before the rules even appeared! Anyway, the Deathrace 2009 is open and taking entries on the Extra Curricular board. Rules duly posted, closing date Jan 15th.

Vinegar Tits 606 Posted January 2, 2009 I thought Miriam Karlin was dead! I swear she died of cancer years ago. Not long after that comedy she did playing a ghost... Oy oy oy. No she's not dead. I can hear the ghost of Yetta Feldman turning in her grave at the mere mention of Karlin being dead. She's been on our possibilities list for years, but other than her age doesn't seem to be in bad health.

Octopus of Odstock 2,194 Posted January 8, 2009 The telephone numbers of a few IT geeks to help speed the upload of the site seemed to do the trick. IT problems aren't the reason for the delay (although the submission problem has delayed it a bit longer than normal), it's time. If someone could cover my shifts at work today & tomorrow, the whole jamboree will be up properly. I'll also award that team 1,000 points The truth is, whilst I'm poorly at the mo, I pulled a sickie solely to complete the DDP's 1st phase on Wednesday. I could pull another sickie but it's not going to help me really at work. Basically, I think I have no option but to put in a huge slog on Sunday night & get the site, bar pics & hyperlinks, up & then it's done. * Sigh * Right now, I hate the f*****g DDP. Give it two weeks & I'll be fine.

There's probably no better time to pull a sickie, everyone else is at it. But in reality, go at your own pace, it's YOUR deadpool! It's only January 8th... Octopus of Odstock 2,194 Posted January 8, 2009 There's probably no better time to pull a sickie, everyone else is at it. But in reality, go at your own pace, it's YOUR deadpool! It's only January 8th... Oh, ho, ho - if only it was. I know people want to see as much as possible as early as possible, but sheesh... "your pages are blank" I know (Jan 1st) "why no teams/celebs yet?" (Jan 2nd) "why are my placings in 2008 wrong?" - because I'm halfway through it! "why is my celebrity not there"? Because they're already freaking dead! Anyway, good news. 1) I have come up with an easy solution for the entry forms for 2009/2010 to avoid the same mess. 2) I have booked 25th-31st December 2009 off from work already. That way the uploading is more likely to be done sooner rather than later... To be honest, TMIB, it's more me wanting a bit of time to myself rather than worry about the DDP - I'd rather get ALL the 2009 stuff done & then all I need to do is death here & there whenever - when it's like that, it's gooooooodddd
themaninblack 2,112 Posted January 9, 2009 Its a case of telling us what to expect. With 450+ entries you surely should be cut a bit of slack. And if people complain, f**k 'em. It's a 365 day competition... People just have to be patient, that's all. And you have my full support for reasons you know already...

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted January 12, 2009 I was thinking the same but didn't want to risk all 3 UK vets, given the low points for such old picks. So I gambled on Bill Stone......Result!!!, and on the CPDP too.
