Both Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra were Italian Americans, who themselves faced a form of racism when young men in the early part of the 20th Century - often called WOPs - a very rude term for Italians at the time. Sinatra especially worked hard to mainstream Sammy into the entertainment industry.
