3 child actresses (born 1929, 1930 and 1931) and Judy Garland’s stand-in (born 1919) are still with us.

 

Probably too much of an ask for any of them to still be alive for the film’s 90th anniversary in 5 years time.

Herbert Rusche was a German politician (Green Party, later Pirate Parties) and LGBTQ activist. He was the first member of the German Bundestag in the history of the German Bundestag to openly admit his homosexuality. On March 12, 1984, Rusche was shot and slightly injured by a Neo-Nazi during a lecture on the issue of § 175 because of his homosexuality.

He died on December 22, 2024 at the age of 72, probably as a result of an earlier stroke.
