CastAway 474 Posted April 9, 2020 Phyllis Lyon has died aged 95: https://www.ebar.com/news/latest_news//290632 Along with partner Del Martin (who died in 2008), she was one half of the first same-sex couple to get married in San Fran in 2004, which was voided when the California Supreme Court voided the law allowing same-sex couples to get married in San Fran later on in the same year. They were married again (once again being the first to do so) in San Fran in June 2008 when same-sex marriages were again legalised in California in that year. Del Martin died 2 months later due to complications from an arm-bone fracture. In the middle of being LGBTQ activists who were founding members of the Daughters of Bilitis, the first national lesbian organization in the United States, in 1955, they also found time to be senior activists, advocating for older people, from 1989. They were also named delegates to the White House Conference on Aging, Martin by Dianne Feinstein and Lyon by Nancy Pelosi, in 1995. Rosie O'Donnell played Martin and Maddie Corman played Lyon in the miniseries When We Rise.
