was Michele Morgan really famous ?

Yes! It is the headline story on the French news. Read the article (in English) and you will see how they gush over her: http://www.france24.com/en/20161220-french-screen-legend-michele-morgan-dies-96

I mostly know her from her starring role in "La Symphonie Pastoral." She also won the best actress award at the first ever Cannes Film Festival.

Very sad: French actress Claude Gensac died at 89.

She is best known for playing in several Luis de Funès movies in the 60s and 70s.

Mirroring Michel Galabru's (?) death in January.

Ah, Louis de Funès, my favorite French actor of all times. He too died much too soon. That said, I had no idea Gensac was still alive.

Great French writer Michel Déon has died aged 97. I predicted his death towards the end of the year some time ago.

He apparently died in Ireland of a pulmonary embolism. In France he was pretty famous, like the late Michel Butor.

Tomorrow, a year ago Pierre Boulez died. January is a bad month for French conductors.

Former German president Roman Herzog is dead

Sorry, but the forum doesn't let me post any links to an article. No idea why.

German publicist Udo Ulfkotte dies completely unexpected at 56 of a heart attack:

http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/literatur/udo-ulfkotte-umstrittener-publizist-und-ehemaliger-faz-journalist-ist-tot-a-1130008.html

He had turned into the public face of the German right-wing populist anti-establishment movement by writing books against the mainstream press landscape. The german term used by our right-wing populists was "Lügenpresse" (the press of lies). His death will lead to a thousand conspiracy theories. In fact, it reminds me of the death of Andrew Breitbart in the US.
