Phantom 2,530 Posted January 3, 2012 Having seen DDT's team above, half of it seems pretty good picks to cark it this year, and some of the rest I don't know the current health of - Bert Sugar and Jon Lord for example. He'll be right up there. Though, its hard to say much beyond "they look good on paper" right now. I'm sure absolutely brilliant DDP teams on paper have been utterly bollocks in practice. Bert Sugar was in hospital for 2 weeks last month battling pneumonia as well as his lung cancer.

maryportfuncity 10,616 Posted January 3, 2012 15) Andrew Smith (Partner of Russell T Davies) Awww fuck, how did I miss this one? Chances of an obit must be low. Chances of a fleeting mention in the press though, which qualify as an obit, aren't that low. Very competitive list from DDT I'd say.
the_engineer 1,414 Posted January 3, 2012 I have noticed quiet a few rugby players seem to get ALS wonder if there is a connection . Wikipedia's article about ALS has the following paragraph: The very high incidence of the disease among Italian soccer players (more than five times higher than normally expected) has raised the concern of a possible link between the disease and the use of pesticides on the soccer fields (several of which have been linked to neuronal toxicity). A 2004 Italian study trying to link a high incidence of ALS in soccer players to performance-enhancing drugs failed when the group was compared to cyclists that also used performance-enhancing drugs but without contracting ALS. A possible conclusion was that soccer players experience frequent head trauma (heading the ball, falls and collisions sustained during games) compared to cyclists who wear head protection and rarely have falls. Similar things may be at work in ruggers. Do boxers show a high incidence of ALS? regards, Hein you know i don't know many boxers that have died from it though many do suffer from brain problems. I think ALS is simply taking so many hits the head it knocks a switch off like unplugging the brain from the body . After all we humans have tiny electric currents running though our body and wouldn't be able to move or think without them ,so does that make us part machine?? Magere Hein 1,399 Posted January 4, 2012 First team head count is 540! Urgh, that's 10,800 entries to stick into a database. Let me repeat what I said in my entry email. You may have missed it: Good luck with entering the lot into the database. If you need assistance, perhaps I can help. Just let me know. regards, Hein
themaninblack 2,112 Posted January 4, 2012 That's just the first process. The next, which I'm half way through, is inputting the team names into the database via excel (Team names, how many years, comments etc). Then I'll sift through all entries to match existing celebrities in the database. Then I write up info on the new celebs. Then load it all in. Phew! What I might do, is the regular teams first, there's over 400 of them. Then I'll do the theme teams - 116 of them! I'll let you know how I get on and whether I need some assistance once I can grasp what needs doing...
Toast 16,063 Posted January 4, 2012 I'd have expected a higher ratio of theme teams.
maryportfuncity 10,616 Posted January 4, 2012 Shit Lardy, you're right. Lianne Smith is up on my list of hated people twice. That's last minute tinkering for you! I'm assuming the DDP might see sense and bump Tony Blair on from the subs bench.

Spade_Cooley 9,474 Posted January 4, 2012 Yeah, I can only echo what everyone else says TMIB, this shit is heavily appreciated. You have any rough idea what % of DDP participants are posters/lurker around these parts?

Lady Grendel 139 Posted January 6, 2012 Extremely unoriginal and I doubt there are any unique picks. Reluctantly downgraded my next door neighbour (Duke of Roxburghe) from joker status and replaced him with a BeeGee, but he is still on my list Grendel's Graveyard: Robin Gibb (Joker) Guy Innes-Ker Muhammad Ali Abdelbaset Al Megrahi George Michael Prince Philip John Demjanjuk Etta James Ian Brady Michael Douglas Gary Carter Zsa Zsa Gabor Eli Wallach Lindsay Lohan Nelson Mandela Margaret Thatcher Peter Tobin Andy Williams Dick Cheney Sid Waddell What is Guy Innes-Ker's condition at the moment? last I read he was receiving treatment in London but other than that news is a big vague on him I dropped him due to lack of news too. He practically lives next door to Lady Grendel, so she may have some inside info. Local talk is that the treatment has stopped as his condition is untreatable, but that was quite a few months ago and he certainly looked healthy when I saw him in August when The Household Cavalry descended on Kelso .They performed their 'Musical Ride' at Floors. The HC rarely perform in Scotland, think this was the first time in 12 years and only about the 3rd time in history, but The Duke is a former Lieutenant in The Blues and Royals who make up half of the HC and he took their final salute at the end of the show. Looked extremely well, sadly I only got photos of him from behind, so I think he could be a white elephant, but oesophageal cancer is normally a killer in 3 - 5 years, so he stays on my list.
