By-Election Bingo

Carswell quitting UKIP but looking to remain as an independent. So far as I'm aware nobody can force a by-election in those circumstances. Anyone know different?

Fair play to Ukip for making Labour 2017 look like Labour 1995 in terms of competence and practical ability.

To be fair they've been trying to oust Carswell since he defectd.

So, does Carswell even both to stand again in 2020?

Unless the pressure is coming from constituents Carswell will hold tight. Conservatives might offer him a seat in the House of Lords for him not to stand in 2020.

Pressure from UKIP right now is like threats from a one legged puppy, really.

Though dogs are nice, of course.

Lets face it. Carswell only defected to UKIP to put pressure on Cameron. He was never really a genuine kipper.

That and that he wanted the publicity.

There's a really interesting book called All Out War by Tim Shipman which actually suggests Carswell defected to UKIP in order to attempt to give the party a more moderate edge in the run up and throughout the EU referendum - so that he could be quoted in newspapers as a UKIP representative rather than constantly having Farage spouting off on one. Not entirely sure that worked out as planned though. Although Carswell was still in touch with Gove and co. and it was probably extremely useful to have a mole in the UKIP camp.

General election in June!

May's killed the sodding by-election bingo.

A redo in July then?

The game will continue until parliament is officially dissolved. New by-election bingo in July with more picks per person.

I will start it in a new thread but we may have a final death to find a winner from our four joint leaders.

Young Maryport doesn't demand a recount. He may well re-enter in July, mind

Someone could do a similar game but with MP`s standing in the general election and predicting how many will lose seats.Points could be based on size of majorities.

I'd be up for that. Pick 10 seats you think will be lost in the GE, if they fall then you score the current majority.

I would oversee it but am too busy with uni work family commitments job hunting and running about 8 pools already.Someone else should definitely go for it though.I would certainly enter a team.

8 pools? Bloody hell, Shaun! :D

Could run as a prediction contest rather than a deadpool game, surely? So folk could answer in thread rather than by PM and all the "host" would need to do is count up points at the end.
